Great beginning
Just finished the first in Patterson's Women's Murder Club and am already looking forward to the next one. Great characters and a plot that starts out quickly and keeps you on your toes til the end. Great summer read for those who enjoy murder over romances.

great except for extreme violence
The original book of the Women’s murder club series, it was nice to see how it all gets started. However, the very first scene is the savage, bloody murder of newlyweds in their hotel immediately after the marriage ceremony. It seemed to really glorify in the violence, and take it to a higher level than conceivable. I ALMOST just stopped and deleted the book. However, I stuck with it, and it is a rocky ride and twisty. It is worth reading, but the first chapter ought to be rewritten to be after-the-fact

James Patterson has a new fan in me!
Suspense novels are some of my favorite books to read, so it's surprising that this is the first time I've ever read James Patterson! My MIL gave us some books for our garage sale, and I came across one of Patterson's books. It sounded really interesting, but then I realized it was 17th in the series! So I found the 1st, started reading, and didn't want to put it down. Ordered a used book, and the condition arrived as described. The chapters are short and fly by, the suspense is gravitating, and there's even a little romance! The twists kept coming at the end too, just when you think it's wrapped up. Plus, a women's murder club?? That sounds amazing...I'm jealous! Anxious to read the 2nd in the series.

Addictive thriller!
I have recently retired and this book was given to me as a gift after I had expressed my desire to take up more enjoyable reading other than newspapers, emails or whatever else I found going down the rabbit holes available online. This book is exactly what I needed…the storyline and characters catch your interest immediately and the thrilling ending was absolutely unexpected. This is my first James Patterson book and also the first in the series of “the women’s murder club” novels…I am excited to start the next one and I can’t tell you what a great feeling it is to actually physically hold a book in my hands instead of on the computer or iPad. It just seems so much more personal to me. If you like a well written book filled with suspense and have never picked up a J. Patterson book your life is not fulfilled!!!

Twisted author
Lots of twists and turns in this one, with quite a few casualties along the way. Look forward to the next saga.

Great read!
Another nail biter! I didn't like the sad part, but all in all it was a great read. I recommend the series of "The Women's Murder Club!"

A mediocre "Who done it?"
A mediocre who-done-it. The author attempts to create strong female characters--A types, which is good, but their connections are superficial enough to be unbelievable. It's already established that 4 women in different categories of law enforcement band together, that's the thing that makes it special in the crime/thriller genre. The reporter and cop team up for essentially no reason and the same is true of the prosecutor. The only believable connection is between the ME/Coroner and the detective. So two of the characters just basically team up just "because." The relationship between the protagonist and her love interest is pretty standard. Her internal dialogue in regards to it is unbelievable. It's sort of like if you've ever seen "The 40-Year-Old-Virgin," and he says boobs are just like sand--it's like that. Women don't think the way they're portrayed. Granted the author is a man, but maybe he should have consulted with a woman or something on internal dialogue. It's not repulsive but it is off-putting. For example "She looked at me with the fragile courage only another woman could understand." This is from a woman's perspective. What's fragile courage? I don't think courage has ever been connected with the word fragile. Either you're courageous or you aren't. Is a woman's courage somehow brittle? This is the sort of thing you'll have to stomach if you're going to get through this book. The writing is acceptable overall. It's sort of like someone writing about football that never played the game, or the moon (who'd never been lol). Everything was essentially telegraphed, whether or not it was intended. For someone lacking a great deal of insight into interpersonal relationships, the story was okay. There are a lot of things that are unbelievable during the story and also in hindsight, but I'll leave that for another reader to discover. There are tons of examples. Maybe you'll see what I mean. As a disclaimer, this was my first James Patterson novel. I picked this up after watching his Masterclass. Now that I know how he writes I have more context for what he covers in the course.

One of the best crime books I’ve ever read.
It keeps you wondering who is the killer. You think you know but the more your read the more you know you are wrong. It keeps you guessing till the very end.If you like crime books you’ll love this one. I can wait to read the second book.
