ALPINE guy buying JBL speakers??
Hope they fit!!! Theses speakers are AMAZING!! I haven’t even installed them, and I’m impressed!!! This is the SAME company that makes Infinity 6.5” Infinity speakers?? I bought both of them, and the Infinity 6.5’s are going back! These GTO’s are HEAVY speakers! Thick baffleles, the surrounds that make the bass. The tweeters are large, rotate, fantastic! I’m SO sorry I bought the 6.5” Infinity speakers as well. HAVE to return them ASAP, cheap Chinese junk!!! The GTO baffles are thick and rigid, the Infinity baffles feel paper thin! The magnets are really heavy! I LOVE Focal speakers as well, but their tweeters don’t pivot like these do. These are awesome speakers! Just holding them, you KNOW you bought a quality speaker! I cannot wait to have these installed!! I’m so very impressed without even installing them yet! The quality is so evident! I’m sending the Infinity Reference Chinese junk speakers back, and ordering two more of these GTO’s!! And THATS how impressed I am with these 6.5” speakers!! I LOVE ALPINE, have a brand new ALPINE high-end head unit just installed but I honestly believe these speakers are better for the price than the ALPINE 6.5” speakers I originally was going to buy. That says a lot! I LOVE that you can pivot the tweeters exactly where you want them to be. Combined with ALPINE’s speaker time alignment feature in the HU, this is going to be fantastic!! I was amazed at how heavy these speakers are! Heavier than ALPINE’s, almost TWICE as heavy as Infinity 6.5” speakers, so upset I bought them! But you cannot tell on the internet 😔. Now I have to return them and buy two more JBL GTO 629’s. Oh well, I have 50% of my speakers. Cannot wait to hear this symphony in my Honda CRV!!! Even with the cheap stock Honda speakers, this new ALPINE HU sounds fantastic! I cannot imagine what it will sound like with all 4 JBl GTO’s!! I truly wanted the ALPINE 6.5” speakers, but they don’t have, in my opinion, better quality than these JBL GTO 629 speakers have, and this is from someone who spent $1,500.00+ in 1987 ($3,000.00+ today’s $$!) on a total ALPINE system for my first new car I bought When I was 18 y.o., I was SO PROUD of that car! If that doesn’t tell you how big a fan of an ALPINE I am, then nothing will! I honestly believe these JBL GTO’s are a little superior to the comparable ALPINE 6.5” speakers, and I’ve heard them both. It was so close! But the JBL’s are more sensitive per watt, and the quality of construction is a wee bit better. That’s from an ALPINE lifelong fan! I would NEVER BUY any HU (head unit), amp, or sub, but from ALPINE, PERIOD. But these speakers are AMAZING! And even though they are not ALPINE, for the money, I believe they are the best. That’s hard for me to say, but the truth. And I WANT the best for my money. ALPINE will ALWAYS be my brand of choice, but I didn’t want to buy their separate speaker package, as I will sell this car in a few years. Just put in a Wallmart radio, replace the Honda speakers, and sell it, no problem. Put in high-end ALPINE separate speakers? (Sub/mids/tweeters?) Problem I don’t want. You cannot go wrong with these JBL GTO 6.5” speakers!!

These work GREAT!
These work great as long as you do not overdrive your stereo. Many people have had issues with these and there are some common failure points, traps if you will unknowledgeable can get stuck on.First these are 4 ohm speakers, many oem stereos I've had used 2 ohm speakers. This means without an amp or the same wattage output you will need to turn the volume up TWICE as high. Often leading to the second problemSecond these are 60 watt PER speaker RMS 180 Watts peak. That does NOT mean that your stock stereo is going to suddenly sound better. It means you can turn the stereo up higher before the SPEAKER is the problem. The issue then is usually distortion. Most less expensive and many oem stereo's (I'm looking at you NISSAN) will distort BADLY past 70% volume. Your best bet is to drive these with a quality 2 channel 100 watt RMS amp 50W by 2 channels.. Which leads to the 3rd trap!Third AMPS and stereos often blur the lines between RMS power (continuous) and peak output power. I good way to tell if the amp rating is honest is to look at the fuse they include and multiply it by 12. THAT is the max wattage the FUSE can handle so do not expect the amp to do more even if it says its rated 200watts if it has a 10 amp fuse you probably have a 100-120W continuous amp likely less due to inefficiency. The MAX power rating of most amps comes from capacitor discharge measured in milliseconds. In a nutshell if you are not happy with the stereo's volume at 60-75% and turning it up makes the speakers sound like crap, you need an amplifier. Adjust the levels on your amplifier so your usual listening levels are at 40-50% and leave 50-75% for when you wanna rock out. 75%-100% even with an amp will still sound like crap. Crap is crap and amplifying crap is still just amplified crap.

Hands down AMAZING!!
I purchased these after originally installing a set of infinity reference, 6.5” coaxial speakers in the back door of my 2018 F150. Everything in the truck is amplified and needless to say the back speakers didn’t last more than two weeks without starting to fry even though I was running the recommended RMS power. I have looked at the speakers from JBL off and on, and originally decided not to go with them, but after the infinities went out, I purchased these and all I can say is wow. If you throw an amplifier on these, get ready for them to scream and have damn good clarity as well! I purchased the 6 x 9 for my front doors and it sounds like a concert in my truck. Every time I get in there I smile because it sounds fantastic. If you’re looking at these and another brand and contemplating which one to go with unless you know for a fact, the other ones are perfect and will not have an issue. Go with these . I’m running a SKAR 4 channel amplifier on them and not babying them at all, and they take everything I’ve thrown at them so far.I’m big on sound clarity as opposed to subs hitting and it sounds like the car it falling apart. Or my other personal favorite which is the car with 20 tweeters in it and you’re bleeding from your ears and can’t understand a word of the music. These JBL speaker handle the mids and highs with ease. I backed the bass off of them through the crossover since I’ve got 4x Skar audio 8” subs taking care of the bass.I hope this review helps someone, especially if you’re on the edge between these and another brand.
