Once you go Derwent, there’s no going back!
I’ve been a loyal customer of Derwent for many years. Honestly, they’re some of the best drawing pencils you can buy that aren’t crazy priced. I will always recommend these pencils to any new or experienced artists that are looking for some high quality essentials.. including the colour ranges Derwent also produce! Ive got sets of Derwents that have lasted for years, and the colours, and pencil letters that I use most often and are merely little nubs - you can purchase singular pencils of your choice via the Derwent website, other artist retailers OR you can head directly to the Derwent Museum in Cumbria, and pick them up in their shop (worth the trip if you’re based in the UK, the views are stunning).. meaning you don’t have to buy a new set of pencils every few months for that ONE colour/ shade!! I do recommend buying a good quality sharpener for the pencils, as the graphite can damage easily when used with a cheap sharpener that likes to chew your pencils. Also.. try not to drop them.. they can break inside the pencil, meaning it’s a PAIN to sharpen and will always snap. But I’ve found over the years to keep them out of the tin and put them in an actual pencil case with a bunch of other pencils, as the vibrations that occurs on impact is softened when together and in a soft case (physics stuff innit). But honestly, they are the smoothest pencils I’ve ever used and I cannot fault the consistent quality of Derwent!

Quality Pencils
Fantastic set of quality sketching and drawing pencils in a handy tin. Great value for money.

derwent pencil set
Pencils are good have enjoyed drawing with them. The downside is the wood is soft and chunks can come off when sharpening, leaving an uneven finish around the lead. Make sure you have a sharp sharpener.

Turns My Doodles Into ‘Proper Art’
These pencils feel amazing to use — smooth, consistent, and just the right balance of softness for shading. Even when I’m only doodling, they make me look like I’ve actually got talent. They sharpen well, no breaking every two seconds like cheaper brands. Whether you’re sketching, shading, or just scribbling, they’ve got you covered.

Quality soft pencils for sketching and tracing. Ideal for pyrography preparation.
I’m really pleased with this set of sketching pencils. They run from H which is the hardest in the set to 9B which is the softest. The softer the pencil the darker the shading . I do pyrography and if I’m undertaking a complex design i need to trace the outlines and transfer it onto wood. These pencils are perfect for this. I’ve sharpened a few of them already and had no breakages. I do think if you are sharpening pencils you need to use a quality metal pencil sharpener to avoid crushing the lead especially with this set as the graphite is particularly soft. This is a great set for pencil drawing as you have a big enough range to create some excellent colour differences just by changing your pencil. You don’t need to press on hard to great great coverage. Yes you could buy a cheaper set which I have done in the past but I can feel the quality in these when using them and I’m certain I will be buying more in the future. They come in a nice metal tin too. I’d definitely recommend these pencils.

Great selection of pencils
As an absolute amateur when it comes to drawing I like having a wide selection of tools to keep me interested in what I am doing. I have several different Derwent products and these pencils live up to the standards of other pencils (apart from the charcoal ones). My only gripe is the tin they arrived in...it's a great tin but the plastic tray inner is very shallow which means the pencils all mix up inside so you have to be very careful on which pencil you select... The pencils are comfortable to use and give great results, sharpen well and are easy to blend with a brush or whatever you choose. Recommended!

Perfette nella loro scatola di metallo... Io le uso per realizzare ritratti. Conoscevo già questa marca e mi trovo molto bene.

As such the pencils are great. The lead is smooth and the dark shades are very nice. Having used lead pencils for the most part of my life I feel that the wood for these pencils could have been of better quality. Derwent is such an excellent brand and I don’t mind paying a higher price for better quality pencils. I have not sharpened these pencils yet so it’s possible that I am over reacting. Over all they are very good for sketching.

I looove this brand, also all their colored pencil lines. I know everyone is Prismacolor crazy, but it is hype. Derwents are just as good and I am a little partial to them simply they are the ones I learn to draw with even as a kid. I remember my first Derwent kit that Dad bought me, 120 pencils and I was around 8 and we were livi9ng in Australia. I love the water color pencils, the graphite, the ink tense that you can actually draw on fabric with and it stays, and the color soft line. I also have a few others, but those are my favorites. I would say there pencils are as good as any other including Prismacolor. Just make sure to get the right pencil sharpener no matter what you use. Get a Derwent battery operated, which is still made or a Panasonic or a used HUNT-Boston, all of which are no longer made. DO NOT GET X-ACTO, it chews your pencils up and constantly breaks the lead. INFO ON ELECTRIC PENCIL SHARPENERS: I am a color pencil artist, and you need to have either a Panasonic, "Hunt-Boston" pencil sharpener, otherwise your colored pencils are eaten. NEVER BUY X-ACTO for colored pencils, X-ACTO will eat your pencils. Until you can find a Panasonic or Hunt-Boston, or Hunt or Boston electric pencil sharpener, get this if you can find one, or the Derwent "BLACK" model as it had 2 holes, one for a longer tip and one for a shorter tip. I have both. I had bought the Derwent one as I have Derwent but also use Prismacolor and graphite. Panasonic and Hunt Boston are NO LONGER MADE no matter WHAT anyone says. I was lucky to buy a new PANASONIC electric pencil sharpener by trolling the net until I found on. Bought a used Boston, model #18, used on eBay and paid waaaay too much. It was pretty beaten up. Also, if you do buy used, get one in the best quality that you can and just pay the extra, I would say up to $35. I personally would not spend more than that. I paid $38 for my new Panasonic. Also, X-ACTO bought out "Hunt-Boston" and all new models are a 4 digit model number, the actual "Hunt-Boston" is only a 2 digit. This issue is that X-ACTO still sells under the Hunt Boston name, and it is misleading as it now uses X-ACTO cutters, which do NOTHING but EAT your pencils. I also do not like it when someone lies about what they are selling. I bought what I thought was a "HUNT" electric pencil sharpener, it came in a box that had the Hunt name and packaging, but when I opened it up it was a, you guessed right... An X-ACTO!! Said so right on the sharpener. Bought on line here at Amazon from Overstock.com, but I returned it and got a refund, including shipping as they were misleading. Hope this helps with those of you who are colored pencil artist. Get a PANASONIC, HUNT-BOSTON or Derwent sharpener. Also, run a graphite pencil through your sharpener first thing every day and it will stay sharp longer since colored pencils are waxy and tend to build up on the cutters.

Il prodotto è molto ben fatto e progettato. Il temperamatite funziona alla perfezione con la comodità del raccoglitore incorporato. Forse meritava una confezione con due matite in più per diverse classi di durezza.
