Limited edition gatefold 12" vinyl with 24 page art book and download code Review: Edgy, Eclectic, Efforvescent and Oh So Good! - Marika Hackman hits the world of manufactured pop-bands, me-too wannabes and banal pop-drivel with all the power of a scintillating storm. This is light-hearted and gently-produced folk music, backed by some excellent musicians, but laced with a razor-edged wit and keen observation. As a volcalist, Marika pushes herself into upper registers where perhaps only the likes of Julia Fordham would previously venture, but does so with such beguiling confidence that the songs flow effortlessly. "We Slept At Last" covers the spectrum from the poppy strains of the lightly-produced "Monday Afternoon" to the sombre depths of "Undone, Undress", but manages this with agility, bold confidence and complete success. Every single track on this 12-song album is exquisitely crafted, but perhaps the stand-out entry is "Animal Fear", which, despite carrying quite a bit more production input, never loses its sense of fun, it's poise, or the poignancy of it's lyrics. "We Slept At Last" eschews the ultimate in polish to give us raw talent - and that is exactly what we get. Marika Hackman brings phenomenal potential to the music industry and, hopefully, there is much, much more yet to come. Review: Yet more brilliant music from Marika Hackman; it'll take some beating for my 'Album of the Year'! - As expected on the evidence of her previous EPs, Miss Hackman has produced a fantastic debut album which builds masterfully upon her other work and shows definite signs of constant development of her craft. Awaiting an artist's debut album, having greatly enjoyed work they have previously produced, can be a trial, as in many cases the character they originally showed is stripped away to allow for, presumably, more 'commercial success', but thankfully Marika's quirkiness, abstract lyricism and ominous yet beautifully-crafted instrumentation remain in place, and, as stated, better than ever. Long may she continue to produce music of this quality!

Wonderful debut - mesmeric songs and baroque touches
Ive seen Marika live locally a few times, and while an engaging artist the solo performances don't always do justice to the fuller versions on her wonderful debut LP. This LP gets repeated listenings, reminding me a little of the Daughter record but with a touch of the baroque and a highly individual voice.

Four Stars
Good, but one gets the feeling that she's still trying to find her voice.

Close Call
Marika's debut album owes her top album rating to her top song win for 'Undone, Undress' when album was matched against Krista Detor - Flat Earth Diary. Marika's songs were sequenced as: Track 10 (Top Song), then Tracks 3, 4, 2, 1, 5, 11, 7, 8, 12, 6 & 9. Initial scoring had indicated that Krista Detor was otherwise in front with her 4th song match win for 'Marietta' with a song loss in 5th against Marika's 'Drown' to next level and then back in front when the two album title tracks clashed in 10th. Reasons given were Marika not offering a long enough song in 4th, song structure in 5th and offering a tired song against a strong one in 10th. 'Undone, Undress' was one of six songs where the 24 page lyrics booklet artwork depicted a trees/forest scene as well as being not the most romantic song of those offered. The lyrics 'We Splept At Last' featured towards the end of ithe closing song 'Let Me In'.

Only one good song on it too
Quick delivery and new condition. Sound is very bassy and muffled, this is fault of production as it's the same on Spotify. Only one good song on it too...

I’m not your manより後にこっちのアルバムを聴きました。

Unusual voice, beautiful and deep lyrics. Very well constructed album, which is hard to find these days, our culture has moved more towards the single. Look forward to more of her excellent work.

"And some have a dark turn of mind" singt Josienne Clarke.
