Great Start, But Could Use More Variety
Dr. Clare Bailey’s The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet Recipe Book is a solid guide for anyone looking to manage blood sugar and lose weight while enjoying nutritious, Mediterranean-style meals. The 150 recipes are simple, well-balanced, and don’t rely on obscure ingredients, making healthy eating feel more achievable. That said, some recipes could be improved with stronger flavors or more creative ingredient combinations. A few feel a bit basic, and it would have been great to see even more variety—perhaps additional meal options or tweaks to existing recipes to suit different tastes. With a little more diversity in the selection, this book could go from good to truly outstanding.Despite these minor drawbacks, it’s still a helpful resource, especially for those following Michael Mosley’s 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet. A worthwhile addition to any health-conscious kitchen, but a future edition with even more recipes would be even better!

Honestly the best Recipe Book I ever bought.
I am a hoarder of recipe books and I can honestly say this is the best recipe book I have ever bought simply because I've tried a whole host of it's recipes and all have been delicious, not one duff one! I am a bit fussy when it comes to meals I like them to be dead tasty, I don't do bland, so I've often been disappointed with previous recipe books when they promise a delicious recipes which turn out to be bland. Not so with this book, Michael and his GP wife must have my love for tasty food that's easy to prepare and requires no special cookery skills.I don't have blood sugar problems, I'm not diabetic, but I am over weight and have a hard time trying to lose weight. Although my diet was relatively healthy I was addicted to starchy carbs and I'm sure that was where my weight loss problem was. I bought this together with the Blood Sugar Diet paperback and Micheal Mosley's other wonderful book the Clever Guts Diet and have not looked back. I'm following recipes from both books as they are both based on the same style low carb Mediterranean style diet, I'm not following the 800 calorie a day diet as that's too hard for me but instead I'm just using the recipes in both books for all my meals.I've lost half a stone in 3 weeks which is a great weight for me, considering I'm not following the 800 calorie rule, I'm not counting calories at all, on previous diets like WW and SW I only used to lose half a pound to a pound a week if I was lucky. Amazingly I don't miss the starchy carbs at all probably because the recipes in the book are so delicious and satisfying. I love how I haven't had to cut out all fat as in previous diets but instead can have plenty of good fats, like olive oil, nuts, seeds, full fat yogurt and cheese.....yum. Like the book warns I did feel a bit hungry in the first few days while my body adapted to burning fats for fuel rather than sugary carbs but that soon passed. I never thought I'd be able to give up bread for lunch, but the alternatives lunches in this book are so much nicer, I wasn't much of a fish eater but this book has converted me.Recipes tried so far include:Main Meals:Chicken Korma - best homemade curry I've made and already a family favourite, delicious with the Cauliflower Rice recipe in the Clever Guts Book.No Pasta Beef Lasagne - delicious, never thought I'd say it but better than lasagne with pasta and I was a pasta lover. another Family favourite.Creamy Fish Bake - Yummy, didn't like Celeriac before but it's great with this, another family favourite.Lamb Tagine - Lovely, especially if made the day before so flavours develop even more, nice with Quinoa.Pancetta, Broccoli and Tomato Gratin - so simple yet so tasty and surprisingly filling.Seedy Flapjacks - Lovely and perfect if you're in need of a quick snack.StirF-Fried Cabbage and Peppered Mackerel - I could live on this and I never used to liked smoked fish, so simple to make, especially if like me you're lazy and use just cabbage and fish, finely sliced a cabbage (I used a whole pointed cabbage for 2 people), fry in a little olive oil for a few minutes, break up a couple of smoked mackerel fillets and chuck 'em in to heat through, viola tasty filling lunch. If you like tasty grub and need to lose some weight you can't fail with this book.

Great recipes for all the family! Don't hesitate buying this.
My wife bought this book as she wanted us as a family to cut down (not out) on our sugar intake and she wanted a recipe book that provided some inspiration and a varied menu to achieve this. It's no secret we were consuming far too much sugar so we decided to get proactive before our health began to seriously suffer. The recipes in this book are delicious and even better, they're simple with a minimal number of ingredients required across most of the recipes. As full time working parents anything we can cook that is quick, simple, tasty and healthy every night is a total bonus.Unlike competitors to this book where the ingredients are a-plenty and somewhat pricey, these ingredients are your day to day stuff combined to make delicious flavours and simple meals that the whole family (not just adults) can enjoy. The Pork in Mustard is an absolute fave! The food is filling and if you do your best to stick to the plan you won't be hungry however as our goal was to significantly reduce not remove sugar from our diet we do allow ourselves some sugar free jelly with chopped fresh fruit and a dollop of reduced fat creme fraiche for dessert each night because we found we did want something a little sweet just once a day. Adding this pudding hasn't hindered our progress in any major way and we're finding we can pinch a bit less belly fat already. Really worth having this book open and ready to use and not gathering dust on your shelf. There are loads of recipes to choose from that are inexpensive and simple to make. Tonight we're making meatballs from it and our 8 year old will get involved in the prep of it too so we can educate her on the importance of cooking simple healthy meals. I wished we'd known about the pitfalls of sugar decades ago before we got hooked on it! Nonetheless this is a great recipe book for weaning yourself off sugar without feeling deprived. Highly recommend and for the price it's excellent value for money.
