Is this a problem with the bulb or the fixture?** A: I have had no problem with the dimmer(s) in place prior to fitting the LED warm glow bulbs. All I know is that the dimmer type needed for LED lamps is of the 'trailing edge' type (you can look up what this means on the web) so I can only believe that, unknowingly, this was the type I fitted. The other dimming method is the 'leading edge' type which will not satisfactorily work with LED bulbs and it seems that you may unfortunately have one of these. I have LED lamps in most rooms and in one there is also another dimmer which I installed (for incandescent bulbs) which also functions correctly so I guess you are very unlucky. Having said this, there is a slight flicker when at minimum setting but not particularly problematical in practice. Of course, if you only have one LED bulb and one dimmer then you have no way of verifying the culprit without third party intervention but I would err on the side of suspecting the dimmer. **Q: Would it work with bg nexus (brushed steel screwless 1 gang 2 way 400w dimmer) leading edge dimmer?** A: This will work, it is switchable between leading anc trailing edge. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008H3R4HY **Q: do these bulbs light downwards as effectively as upwards? I'm concerned by the large plastic base** A: Well my 3 in a line are pointing at an angle downwards. If you want to be certain just touch the case after a half an hour, and then an hour.
