Ewan the 'Pure Genius' Sheep
After we brought our first child home from hospital, the first few nights were pretty tough in terms of sleep and getting our daughter to sleep in the moses basket was not at all easy - we anticipated it being like this, however it got me thinking whether there were any products out there to help a baby relax. We had Ewan the Dream Sheep recommended to us by one of the dads from our NCT group. I remember the day it arrived through the post - I came into the house and my wife was in the middle of a nappy change and our daughter was screaming away. I unpacked the Ewan, put the batteries in and switched it on. I placed it by her head and she IMMEDIATELY stopped crying - fluke? perhaps? but we've since been using it for a month now and I have to say that I'm very impressed - it doesn't always work, however the majority of the time Ewan calms our daughter and soothes her to sleep after 20 minutes or so. It's also effective during a nappy change providing it is switched on in good time and the baby soothed before hand it can mean a cry free nappy change - it must act as a distraction.Anyway - every baby is different but it is worth a try - you cannot put a price on sleep and the money spent was well worth it.

Awesome Wee Dude!!
I swithered and dithered over buying Ewan (or Shaun as he gets in our house) as I thought the £30 price tag seemed excessive but decided to go for it and he really is a wonderful little guy. He's very much a part of our baby boy's bedtime routine. Bath & bottle then a story with his little woolly friend glowing and playing his wee soothing sounds. Don't judge him immediately. Give him time to work his magic. You can't just plop a battery operated sheep beside a screaming baby and expect silence... You do actually need to continue being a parent too!! He's an extra tool to help soothe baby into a restful slumber. Baby has now worked out how to get him off of the cot bars but he's older now so not really an issue. We only use Shaun at bedtime so battery life has never been an issue for us at all. I have replaced the batteries once in the last 8 months. His super soft fleece, head and legs are comforting for baby too. And look at his wee face, how could you not love that... Mischievous but fun and caring glint in his eyes so he and our little lad are best buds!! Bedtime is a breeze in our house, baby LOVES going to his bed and it's partly due to a £30 sheep. I'd buy him again in a heartbeat :)

Ewan is a dream come true
Everybody should have a Ewan!We purchased Ewan before our son was born to incorporate into his bedtime routine (oh naive first time parents we were - what routine!).Ewan is a soft cuddly toy with a speaker inside him and a soft red light emanating from his chest (i know red seems like an odd choice but apparently all other light colours stop the production of melatonin which is conducive to a good nights sleep)Ewan has 3 white noise options (rain, hoover, womb) as well as a lullaby. To be honest it's hard to tell the difference between rain and hoover. You press on one off his four legs to start it off and it plays for 20 minutes. On the sound box inside Ewan you have two volume options and you can turn off the light. We use Ewan daily with the light on. The drawback is the battery life. It may be due to us using the light as well but our son is now 8 weeks and we've had to change the batteries once already (you can tell when they need to be changed as Ewan starts to sound a little demonic instead). Ewan also has a handy velcro tail, meaning we can attach him to the Moses basket with no worry of him smothering our boy.The most important thing is this does seem to have the intended effect. We can leave our son in a dozing state ( not completely asleep) and Ewan will finish the job for us. Is it worth the money- you tell me, as a sleep deprived parent any price is worth it!

Works to get baby to sleep
We love this sheep. My daughter is used to having one of the sounds (left front leg) on when she falls asleep and I must say this is totally working. I think I started this when she was around 3 months old or so. I have never used the light with it as it freaked her out in the beginning. There are 4 sounds which are controlled by pressing the sheep's legs. This was not written anywhere in the instructions, it's also not written that there is a "test" function which means that it will play sounds randomly. I don't use it in "test". There is also a lovely music which is really calming and I use that when it's time to wake up or just to relax. I have recommended this to other moms, it will of course only work if you get your baby used to it on a daily basis. I must admit I take this sheep along on holidays to ensure that my daughter has her familiar sounds when she falls asleep in a different setting and that is quite reassuring. I think the batteries it requires didn't come with it but could be wrong, you'll need 3 AA batteries. The sheep's tail is velcro and could be used to hang it on to the crib or pram, I never used this but it's a nice idea and gives you an option.
