Apollo Gardening Ltd METAL RIDDLE 1/4IN R08

Bought this after spending ages looking at different ones online. This did not disappoint. It’s super sturdy, well made, coated with a green plastic maybe? It’s a really good size and sieves well. It’s a fair weight making it really robust. I’ve not really any criticisms, however, my husband did think it would be easier to sieve if it had a couple of handles on so he’s going to add them himself. I’d definitely buy this again and highly recommend it. Delivered on time and well packaged. Thank you.

Excellent product

Pretty sturdy. I’ve loaded this with a lot of gravelly soil and it held up fine. I learnt a lesson from that. It’s far more effective when not loaded so heavily giving the soil room to move and pass through the holes. It is slow back breaking work but how else would you separate debris from your soil. I didn’t expect less. This is more of a warning to others. Would have got 5 stars if it had handles. That addition would allow you to shake it easier like other garden sieves I’ve used.

It works great

I've used this to sift 10mm cerney gravel in a much-neglected parterre, where it had become 50-60% soil. The siftings contain a lot of fine gravel, but this made the mix great for improving drainage in my clay soil and raised beds, and leaves a very good mix of gravel that is then easy to wash - quick swoosh through a large trug of water. It's transformed the area and saved me from getting someone in to take up, remove and replace all the gravel. Now I just need to top up the gravel I've sifted about 40 square feet so far and it hasn't even scuffed the paintwork. I'd highly recommend this sieve for this kind of activity. It's well made - tough but light - and fits into a mid-sized plastic trug.

This soil riddle / sieve is just the right size - not too big, not too small. It looks and feels very good quality, and after the first use I knew I had bought the right product for the job. Initially I considered buying a larger hole size, but to be honest this one is perfect for what I need. I started by filling it with half a bucket of waste soil full of all sorts of rubbish which I would usually put in the recycling bin, but the quality of the soil after riddling is amazing - it's so clean and fine. I would certainly recommend this product if you need to refine your garden soil

Tried to clean up a large amount of decorative gravel using this. The first wheelbarrow load of it came up beautifully after power washing it in the riddle. I then realised I'd been at it for an hour and had another 15 wheelbarrows of the stuff to get through, so I promised myself I would return to the task next summer and went inside to play computer games. Great item though and very sturdy.

I borrow, ok steal a bag of horse bedding from my sister, pellets of wood specifically for bedding, I haven't used a product branded "for cats" but other kinds of wood pellet - such as those used in wood pellet boilers are similar, but not as absorbent - but still work. I was using - laboriously - a cat litter tray "sieve" shovel, the method with this kind of bedding is to shake out the "sawdust" - the pellets break down when wet, and leave behind the intact pellets these then go back into the cat litter tray. While economical on material, and the pellets are effective at soaking up the urine, the above method took several minutes out of my day. The soil sieve is placed inside a bin liner, I can then tip the entire smaller sized litter tray into it, and shake the pellets free of the loose material. I have found that it's easier to do this in stages, say a third at time, YMMV depending on how much litter you have. A larger tray would need another container to tip the sieved pellets into, but in any event the sieve allows for a much quicker process, under a minute the waste is bagged and can be disposed of.
