Hair Colour Remover

Ive always been one for changing my hair ever since I was young, and this usually consists of trying to reverse the blackest of black hair with a high strength bleach and loosing all my locks in the process! This time round though, and much less spontaneously I decided to look into finding a new way to get rid of my raven black permanent hair color. I went from bleach blonde, to bright red to black about 2 years ago now and had been black ever since (black over black many times), or I should say I've been an array of different types of black also (blue black, purple black etc). My hair now looked totally muddled and unhealthy looking and I felt "washed out" by the depth of the black color on my hair. I thought I would have to put up with it until it grew out! Then I found this product and became intrigued by some positive reviews and also after having watched some before and after videos on the internet I figured I had to try it! Even though I already new that it states it may not work if you have used UV hair dyes such as blue black which I had! I thought it would do nothing... I would like to stress right now (and I can't stress enough!) how important it is to read the instructions very VERY carefully and you MUST read the instructions more then once before you mix the products and start the process! Ive dyed my hair so many times I am so used to skipping instructions and just diving right in, but this product is different and you need to use it absolutely correctly for it to work! Before using the product I washed my hair thoroughly with a deep clensing shampoo (tresemme clense and replenish deep clensing shampoo) twice and no conditioning. As reviews have stated, the product smells bad, but not as bad to me as some reviews have made out! It is some what like egg and something else I can't put my finger on, more chemically! I was worried at first the house might smell for ages after but thankfully it didn't. I got used to the smell quite fast and it didn't bother me much. I wrapped cling film and a towel around my head and made sure I was in a warm place and blew the hairdryer on my head a few times just to make sure my head was nice and warm. Just before rinsing when I took the towel off my head I could already see a change! My hair from the roots looked very light ginger/light brown! The rinsing part is a pain, but you have to time your rinsing to be sure to rinse for 10 minutes between each process (first rinse, buffer rinse and then second buffer rinse) so you do have to put up with about 30 minutes of rinsing but I figured since my hair was so so dark in the first place I had to do it to the max! Even whilst wet I could tell my hair had lost the "blackness" and the tips looked more dark brown/copper colored whilst wet. Then I had the joy of drying my hair to see my hair get lighter and lighter the dryer it got and still in fabulous condition! I was overwhelmed by the results! It certainly didn't get rid of ALL the previous color (as it states you'll never achieve fully natural hair results if you have previously used bleach/hair lightener) but it made my hair a good couple of shades lighter, jet black to copper brown/gingery. The color was also very even to my surprise as I was also concerned the color would look crazy like really light roots and really dark tips but this wasn't the case. I would recommend this product to anyone who is unhappy with their hair and who wants an alternative to bleach! I will be using this product again at some point and I MIGHT use bleach after this but its a relief knowing I can use a much weaker bleach if I want to later on as this product has lightened my hair so well! The only thing I would say is, after my hair was dry my hair didn't smell like the product, but when I used my hair straighteners the smell suddenly came back off my hair which wasn't pleasant but after straightening no one said they could smell anything bad thankfully but be prepared for the smell to maybe linger slightly after using this product.

I have dyed and bleached my hair for many many years. I have added bright colours to slices of bleached hair and I have dyed over it to "correct" I have had the infamous khaki effect from colouring bleached hair brown and I have had the over processed ends that are soooo dark they lack any depth of colour. So I took it upon myself to use colourb4 and to honest it didn't expect much because of what I have put my hair through. I applied the product and wrapped in cling film and then waited an hour. I could see after this time that some colour had lifted and I started the rinsing process making sure I followed the instruction times to the letter. My hair felt fine until I added the buffer and then it started to feel very rough and tangled, I continued to rinse but I didn't try to untangle the hair I just let it rinse through. After I had finished the rinse I did add a little conditioner just to the ends and It immediately smoothed out and I could get my fingers through no problem. The colour is admittedly a little brassy and slightly gingery but I did expect this but I have to say that it is evenly stripped and although it is a little darker at the ends it has almost summery highlighted effect to it (I'm thinking Isla Fisher colouring) it looks healthy, it looks natural and it has made me happy. I will probably use a wash in wash out ash blonde colour but only to tone the brassyness out but I'm honestly not in a rush as I don't feel my hair looks too bad. I am fully aware that even dark hair dyes have an element of peroxide to them and this contributes to the gingery effect after stripping but even so I can't fault colourb4 it has done everything it said it would do. I would add that there is an eggy smell to the product but nothing much worse than hair dye produces and it is bearable. All in all I think this product has made my hair look so much better and I am so pleased with the results.

I'd like to preface this review by saying I have dyed and bleached my hair constantly since I was about 14, have had perms and used colour remover before. My mum is a hairdresser so I've used a LOT of products over the years (I'm now 26). At the time of using this product, I'd been using semi-perm home dark brown dyes for about 10 months. I naturally have dark blonde hair and the bottom half of my hair had been bleached some time ago and was in the process of growing out. This product managed to lift my roots (that had only been dyed using semi perm a handful of times) a decent amount - probably 3 shades lighter. It didn't do much to the rest of my hair, which I pretty much expected as it was previously bleached then dyed over 10+ times. HOWEVER... nothing, and I mean NOTHING could've prepared me for how bad the smell would be and how long it would linger. As I mentioned, I've used a different colour remover before so fully expected the sulphur rotten egg smell (perm solution also smells like total trash, so I thought I'd handle it well), but this was next level. Like many who will read the reviews, I was thinking 'pffffft... these weaklings! I can handle a stinky do if it works!', but I thought the smell would last a couple days max. It's been over 2 weeks now and the stench will just not give up :( It seems to be worse when it's wet, so immediately after a shower or getting caught in the rain.. even if I do exercise and sweat a little! I have washed my hair around 20 times in desperation and it's made my clothes, bedding and furnishings stink. THANK GOD I did this during lockdown when nobody needs to be in my presence - if I had to go to work like this, I'd be mortified. I've finally resorted to scouring the internet for home treatments and will be buying baking soda and lemon tomorrow in the hope it rids me of this smell once and for all! Would highly recommend using a different colour remover - I've used ones in the past that are much more pleasant and just as effective.

I have dyed my hair using permanent black box dye for the past 3 years, so I wasn't expecting miraculous results. The colour faded slightly on my fringe and bottom layers, but the lift has been very minimal, even after following the instructions exactly. Lifting the dye to the shade I need will definitely take a few more sessions. My hair was very dry afterwards, but a deep condition sorted that out. Smells awful, but that's to be expected with most colour removers. I'd also recommend giving your hair time to breathe if you intend on using it more than once, to prevent serious damage.

Update a week or so later, hair appears lighter again than previously (and definitely more than) in pics. Only washed a couple of times since remover was used. Still pleased at condition of hair. Update - 1st wash in and hair still feels fine - but I did pre condition it before just washing the roots (normally just wash roots) Also hair has gone lighter - less red. So I did some research before hand - like not washing your hair for 48-72hrs before using this product and made sure I kept my head wrapped in cling film and a towel turned to help activate the colour remover. I mixed both lots of product really well - for a good minute each time. Rinsed super well too - as instructed. I also used 2 pks as I have a lot of hair. It felt like had enough in it. Hair felt a little dry after the process but I put in a good quality leave in conditioner afterwards - and as I never use heated appliances or hair dryers, that's as good as it'll get. So I did the remover thing yesterday. First signs seemed positive on my wet hair. I've home box dyed my naturally very dark brown hair for years, with various red based colours. The last one being a dark rose violet colour. I'm left with a pleasant smell in my hair today - tbh I don't think the product smells bad - no worse than an ordinary hair dye. Hair feels fine condition wise and I'm planning on not dying at (again as advised) for a while as my hair is naturally porous anyway and the hair shaft needs time to settle. Obviously using red hair dyes that have sneaky peroxide additions in them will have lightened my hair, but the sun also takes colour out my hair anyway in the summer. Taken a few photos and managed to find an older pic (not great but only one I can find!) with hair coloured with the dark rose violet colour. IMO, I think it's done a pretty fair job of removing the colour. I try and not overload colour when dying my hair but invariably i tend to put it on anyhow! As I'm getting more greys, I'm trying to go a little bit lighter brown from my natural colour, to hopefully blend things in a bit - never easy with dark hair! I'll stick with semi or temporary wash in tonal dyes for the moment until I have decided on the colourway I'm going for....Which isnt the end of the world as I only wash my hair 2 - occasionally 3 times a week. DO get enough packets for your hair. I was happy with 2pks, but only because ive recently had more length chopped off. If in doubt get more than you need. DO follow the instructions to the letter. All the bad reviews I read in doing research, obviously cut corners or failed to read the info sheet properly - and read them thoroughly first! DO Use a timer - v important. Keep bathroom and hair warm. Make sure you leave lots of time to do this with no interruptions. I set aside a couple of hours and start to very end was 1.5hrs (product needs 1hr to 'bake') I'll admit I didn't do a patch test(my bad) I'm very allergic to many chemicals and fragrances (as hospital tested etc) etc, happy to say this was a green light for me as a product. No scap irritation or burning etc. Of course please do a patch test yourself! I'm planning on applying a little more leave in conditioner at some point but otherwise my hair feels pretty OK to me, not as dry as I feared. Would I use again? Yes I would. Am I pleased with the results? Yes I am, the end result colour was what I was expecting (re info sheet!) And I'll live with it for a bit, as dying it again too soon could leave me with very patchy results. Oh and i suffered no hair loss - apart from my usual. Maybe if your hair isn't in great condition - get it into a healthier place so there's minimal damage to your hair. Before photo is the mirror one, the one with wet hair is after rinsing thoroughly. The after photo is one with a blue face and an orange top. To match my hair...😉😂

So I tried a different product first before this one and it didn’t work. Then I tried this, worked completely. My hair was practically black and it lifted it completely. To a more light brown ginger colour now. Although it works some things to note - it smells awful. Really chemically smell. And I found I could handle the smell. But it was like there was a very strong after smell that lingered in my house. Took me 2 days to get rid off. Another thing was it made my hair SO dry! As in my whole head was extremely dry, itchy and just driving me crazy. I have experienced extremely dry flaky skin all through my hair now. Something I have never had before. I’ve re washed my hair twice. But I am going to try a hair mask tomorrow. So while I needed to use the product I don’t know if I would recommend it. Just for the afterwards of what happens. But it does work.

Worked great. I wanted to get rid of build up. You see I’m really lazy I will put box dye red over box dye red and use different colour reds and so forth. So what ended up happening is the bottom of my hair was darker than the top and completely saturated with colour build up. You can sort of see it in my first photo. Now, I am removing red. I knew that whatever colour was underneath would not be anywhere near my natural colour and would probably be orange or muddy because red hair dye often has bleach in it to make it bright so I knew I would uncover patchy bleached hair which is what I found and is normal. Do not expect it to take off red permanent dye and leave your natural colour, your natural colour is gone bro. Do not panic and try and bleach it. If it is like the first round of mine (the second picture is after using 2 boxes for one round of colour B4) you need another box. What’s left in the first picture is colour build up from multiple box dyes. I used colour b4 again (and only needed 1 box this time as I didn’t go over the yellow at the top) and most of the rest of the build up dropped out. I rinsed it for longer than stated, in fact I rinsed it until I saw the colour stop changing. I would highly recommend doing this for reds. Red clings on for dear life. Also DO NOT skip the buffer. I saw lots of red drop out in the suds of the buffer. I’ve seen a lot of people on YouTube skip the buffer but really don’t especially if you got red. My hair is the perfect palette for a red semi colour now and I’m only going to use semi from now on. You can tell you have colour build up if the ends stay dark, dull, feel heavy and loses its shine. The difference my hair feels is amazing. I did find it dried out a bit but probably because I didn’t use conditioner incase I wanted to do it again. Make sure to shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo and again don’t freak out if you see some weird colour when you use it. If you don’t want this to happen, if you don’t want to spend two days with what my teen calls “a hair colour that isn’t a hair colour” then maybe a bleach bath is for you but I didn’t want to do that my hair has been through enough! Hah. Also don’t expect it to be the perfect lightness and even if you’ve been using box dyes. Box dyes are terrible it’s likely going to be a patchy dye underneath. Highly recommend but take like 2 days off for it and get your stuff outside done so you don’t have to go outside looking weird af.

I have been unhappy with my hair because of the amount of different hair colours I've been during my teens to mid thirties and the last time I dyed my hair was Christmas 2017 and I wasn't achieving the desired results. Since then I grew out all the colour and had a good cut a couple of weeks ago so I could start again on undamaged, undyed natural colour. I don't have many Grey's and so I dyed my hair last week with live colour mercury blue and was not happy with the result. It turned my hair very dark and gave me a few blue highlights towards the front. I looked like a complete d*** lol so I decided to buy this colour b4 for dark hair as my hair is dark anyway. There was no pre lightener on my hair and the blue dye did not have any lift levels. So.... As for the colour remover... Everything was easy to apply and instructions are easy to understand, gloves are not meant for skinny hands only which is good if you have bigger hands. It does smell like sulphuric eggy farts though and the smell took a few weeks to wash out. The finished results where pretty disappointing initially. My hair looked ginger while still wet. I blasted it off with the hair dryer and straitened it. The colour remover has definitely stripped my natural hair colour as well as the blue dye (MY FAULT FOR NOT DOING A STRAND TEST!!) At first I was absolutely livid, it looked like the colour of a hobnob biscuit. It even has a few blonde highlights, so after I had calmed down and family members saying it looked nice, I went in the garden while my husband did a 360 video of my hair and I actually really like the colour now that I've seen it properly but as you can see in my photos, my eyebrows are dark and they're as dark as my natural hair colour so I'm going to end up with dark roots and no reliable colour match so will probably have to stay dark now until it's grown out again. I have taken 2 before photos as well as the results. Just be aware before you attempt to use this product. PLEASE DO A COLOUR STRAND TEST DO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT. YOU MIGHT NOT BE AS LUCKY AS ME AS MY RESULT COLOUR IS EVEN NOT PATCHY. I do like the colour now but other people may not be so lucky.
