I've tried various treatments, but this is the best. I double dosed the first application and the pond cleared in 3 days. It's the first time I've seen the bottom of the pond in a year. It has never been emptied since we filled it 7 years ago! We now have a small in-pond filter with UV and this has killed off a lot of algae, making the pond water somewhat clearer. We use Sludge Klear to lift dead leaves and remove dead algae. It clumps together the algae in large ‘bergs’, also bringing semi rotted leaves to the surface. You can then lift these off with a fine mesh net (which dead algae doesn’t fall through if you remove it carefully). Initially the water is cloudier but after a few days (and remival of a few bergs, the water clears a bit. We are doing this weekly at present, in the expectation that the water will gradually clear. That will be fine. Treat every 14 days as will be a heavy dose and any more frequent will overwhelm pond and bacteria will fight each oth **Q: When you use this does it affect the oxygen levels in a koi pond and is it suitable with a bubble bead filter** A: Susan, when any bacterial treatment works it uses oxygen but as the bacteria are microscopic the amounts used are small and if you have air being introduced via a pump this will be plenty. One key thing to remeber is to wash up your filters regularly as it will break up a lot of sludge which will get caught by your filter and we suggest every 2 days. **Q: Would this help in a pond with no filter? We have a 'wildlife' pond so don't have any filters or anything like that. No aerator either.** A: It will help out for sure. The only thing to bear in mind is that it can take a week or so for the effects of the bacteria to show. You will also find it will reduce the levels of algae/blanket weed in the pond too.
