Hi There I wouldn’t say you can see long distances with it. It is more meant as decoration, but it does magnify a little.

What is the brass item supposed to be on the top of the box it self please?

The pictures show the telescope resting on top of the box. The box itself it just a polished, wooden box; there is nothing brass on the box
