Definitely buying future palettes: detailed review.
So: I’m no professional artist, but I’d been wanting Van Gogh paints for a while. The paints after spritzing with water are smooth, crisp and blend wonderful together, they layer brilliantly and dry super quick. The palette colours are fantastic as a limited choice or mixed with other from like Windsor and newton or other hues from the line. The pigments are bright and honestly, there’s very little fading from application to dry. (You’ll have to see for yourself how it holds up over time if you display your pieces)The paintbrush (no 6) is actually fantastic to use but two notes: *con* the Van Gogh brand printed on the side of mine rubbed off straight away, literally- unboxed it, clipped it together, used it for an hour- gone. (You can see in the pic, and maybe it’s because my hands are like lava- who knows?) not the end of the world though.*pro* the end is a tool to pick out your half pans and remove the mixing tray which is GREAT because there’s no more hassle breaking nails!!!!The kit is a pretty good size for travelling, it about the same size as an eyeshadow box. It’s got a push open/close button on the front so it won’t be manipulated open in your bag and all your pans fall out and get covered in dirt. All the pans are spaced quite far apart which is a godsend if like me, you end up tainting pans with their neighboring colours. The colours and pigments are all on an adhesive sticker protecting the pans, I don’t recommend losing that for when it comes to refill time! (I stuck mine on the inside of the lid, it’s super sticky so it isn’t going anywhere and I can mix on top if I want. They’re all so pretty deeply bedded in there (hence the little tool on the paintbrush) so they likely aren’t going anywhere- the paint cakes themselves though: another matter. This also means that you’re probably better off refilling from the Van Gogh line because I don’t reckon any old pan will fit in it- unless you use tube paint dried or lift the cake from one pan into another. The box itself is okay quality plastic? It’s lid I could see getting a little floppy but honestly it’s not that big of a concern. This: with a small watercolour booklet, as a student, or a hobbyist, or even part of a professionals kit, is perfect. I love it.

Good quality pigments at a reasonable price
I believe these are classed as intermediate standard rather than Artist quality, but I have 2 other sets & am very impressed with the high pigmentation & quality. These were an amazing price & actually a lot cheaper than buying the individual half pan refills. I look out for this make in sales now as a lot better than other makes for amateur use. Arrived quickly too which is always a bonus! Many thanks 🙂

Brilliant starter set for watercolour
I consider this a superb kit for starting out in watercolour or for travelling/outdoors. I ordered 2 sets from Amazon and both were in perfect condition. The brush is indeed slightly loose, but i can accept that for the price i paid for both items. The colours are better than what is classed student grade. Will definitely buy again. What does really disappoint me is that some users give the product a bad rating just because they didn't take the time to find out that the brush is actually a travel brush. The brush head is not missing, it's hidden inside the barrel. This is an excellent product for a fair price.

Excellent student quality!
This is the most affordable small palette for students and easier to use than Cotman pan sets which are don’t rewet easily. They are student grade and I was aware of that in comparison to professional brands but for the price it’s a great portable set and would make a lovely gift for a budding artist. The space around the pans helps with not contaminating other colours so although a little larger than other 12 1/2 pan sets it is easier to use and the extra pans are a great bonus.

WOW what a difference in quality
I started a watercolour class years ago and have wanted to try out some more expensive brands but expensive brands are expensive lol I kept buying affordable sets, then one day my tutor brought in her expensive set (another brand) that we could have a go at. I ordered that set and was shocked at the difference and then thought about researching other brands and this brand kept coming up so I had a look and really wanted a set then came across this small set at a super amazing price!!!! I have paid about the same for other sets with just three more colours, this set is normally £25.The colours are lovely: Azo yellow medium, Burnt Sienna, Chinese White, Cerulean Blue, Paynes Gray, Viridian, Permanent Lemon Yellow, Permanent Red Light, Madder Lake Deep, Yellow Ochre, Ultramarine Deep and Sap Green, Quinacridone Rose, Prussian Blue and Burnt Umber.I love the space around the pans!!! It helps me to keep the colours next to the ones I'm using clean. There is also a brush!!! Its a little one, good for detail work. The lid of the brush is also what you use to pop the pans out, not just a handle and lid.The mixing tray is nice and easy to clean. I don't clean it anymore as I learnt that you can re-wet the dried paint... You use the pokey end of the brush to pop the tray out of the case.

Practical, well thought out design. Great travel or home watercolour set
I purchased the 12+3 set which I’ve found to be a well designed travel box of half pan watercolours. Pans and removable pallet are secure and will not fall out if box is inverted. I really like how the pans are slightly recessed and far enough apart to allow larger brushes to pick up pigment without contamination from / to adjacent pans. There is a useful selection of pigments which are easily and quickly dissolved even without pre-wetting, I’ve also found the colours vibrant and that they mix well. The included synthetic travel brush seems quite a generous size, holds a nice point and it’s end can be used to unclip the pallet. Sections in pallet are deep enough to keep good quantities of colour separate and once removed the lid can be utilised as well. I like how easily pans and pallet are removed and, how secure they are when in place. Overall I am really pleased that I purchased this Van Gogh travel set which I use at home and whilst traveling.
