It has everything you need for the new school year and in a really lovely Oxford case. That's fantastic! Review: the Helix math set is the James Bond of geometry kits: sleek, reliable, and indestructible. - Love the stotage tin which keeps everything in one place. Let me tell you this is, it is my go to set for functionality —the Helix math set is the James Bond of geometry kits: sleek, reliable, and indestructible. We’re talking rulers that still measure true, protractors as precise as the day we got them, and a compass that rotates smoother than my toddler’s tantrum-free mornings. Parents say it’s “well-made, sturdy, reliable,” with “great build quality and value for money,” and I can’t argue—this thing survives everything. Yet… somehow… it disappears. Within a couple of weeks, the rule of physics in this house is: Helix math set = here, but 14 minutes later = nowhere. I suspect elves. Or maybe my son has secret teleportation powers. Built like Fort Knox—but with the portability of a microfiber pillow. Still, it vanishes—like socks in laundry—except these come with professional-grade measuring tools attached. Quick to replace—miraculously, Helix keeps up with my replacement streak (and price point), so school mornings stay smooth. ## Features - Warning:Not suitable for children under 3 years. After using it through a full term of lessons, homework, and revision, I’m happy with it overall. It’s a well‑thought‑out kit that covers everything most students need, and the tin is a real plus for keeping things organised. I’m giving it 4 stars because, while it’s very good, there are a few small areas where it doesn’t feel quite premium. What’s in the box The 10‑piece set includes the essentials you’d expect: Compass Two rulers (typically 15 cm and a smaller one) Protractor Set squares (45° and 60°/30°) Pencil Eraser Sharpener Storage tin Everything you need for standard geometry, graphs, and exam work is here. You don’t need to buy extra bits unless you want a fancier compass or a separate mechanical pencil. Build quality and feel Most of the plastic components feel sturdy enough for daily school use: The rulers and set squares are rigid, with clear, easy‑to‑read markings. Edges are straight and suitable for accurate line work. The protractor is thick enough not to flex annoyingly when you’re measuring angles, and the degree markings are legible. The compass is metal with an adjustable width. It’s not top‑of‑the‑range, but it holds its setting reasonably well once tightened. Nothing feels cheap or flimsy, but it’s also not “luxury” stationery. It’s squarely in the “good quality school kit” zone. The compass: performance and limitations The compass is the piece most students will use heavily, so it’s worth detailing: Adjustment: The hinge moves smoothly, and the screw tightens securely. You can set a wide range of radii, from small circles up to fairly large ones. Stability: On good paper, with a properly sharpened pencil, it draws clean circles without much slipping. If you press too hard or the pencil is blunt, the point can dig in and the circle can wobble slightly. Point grip: The metal point holds into the paper well on standard exercise books and exam paper. On very thin or glossy paper, you need to be a bit more careful to avoid tearing or slipping. For GCSE and similar levels, it’s more than adequate. If you’re doing a lot of advanced technical drawing, you might eventually want a more specialised compass, but for most school users this is fine. Rulers, protractor, and set squares These are the workhorses of the set: Rulers: The main 15 cm ruler is a good length for most geometry tasks and fits easily in the tin. Markings are clear in both cm and mm. The smaller ruler is handy for quick measurements and fits neatly alongside the other tools. Protractor: The 180° protractor is easy to line up, with clear inner and outer scales. The centre mark is visible, which helps when drawing angles from a point. Set squares: Both the 45° and 60°/30° triangles are useful for perpendiculars, parallels, and standard angles. Edges are clean, and they sit flat on the page. All of these tools are accurate enough for school exams and coursework. I haven’t noticed any obvious calibration issues when cross‑checking angles and lengths. Pencil, eraser, and sharpener The included pencil is a standard HB‑style pencil: It writes cleanly and is suitable for diagrams, graphs, and rough working. It’s not a high‑end drawing pencil, but it does the job for typical maths tasks. The eraser is decent: it removes pencil marks cleanly without excessive rubbing, and it doesn’t crumble too quickly. The sharpener is basic but functional; it gives an acceptable point for geometry work. If you’re particular about pencil sharpness, you might still prefer your own sharpener, but the included one is perfectly usable. The storage tin: a real highlight The tin is one of the best features: Organisation: Everything has its place. The compartments are shaped to hold each item securely, which stops things rattling around or getting lost in a bag. Durability: The tin feels robust. It’s survived being tossed into a school bag, knocked around on desks, and generally treated like typical school equipment. Portability: It’s compact enough to fit easily in a pencil case or the front pocket of a bag, but large enough that you’re not struggling to get pieces in and out. For students who tend to lose individual bits (especially the protractor or set squares), the tin is a big plus. It also makes exam prep easier: you can grab the tin and know you have everything you need. Where it’s not quite 5 stars There are a few small points that stop this from feeling perfect: Compass refinement: The compass works well, but the adjustment can feel a bit stiff at times, and the pencil clamp could grip a touch more securely. With frequent use, you may need to retighten it occasionally. Pencil quality: The included pencil is fine, but nothing special. If you prefer mechanical pencils or specific grades (e.g., 2H for very light construction lines), you’ll likely swap it out. Tin lid fit: The lid closes securely, but it’s not a tight, click‑lock fit. In normal use it’s fine, but if you’re chucking it loosely into a very full bag, there’s a small risk it could pop open if knocked just right. These aren’t deal‑breakers, just minor imperfections that keep it from feeling truly premium. Value for money For the price, this set offers very good value: You get all the core tools you need in one purchase. The tin adds real practical value, especially for students who lose things easily. Build quality is solid for everyday school and exam use. Compared with buying items individually, this is both cheaper and more convenient. It’s a sensible “one‑and‑done” purchase for a school year or more. Who this is best for This maths set is ideal for: Secondary school students (Key Stage 3, GCSE, equivalent levels) Anyone preparing for maths exams that require geometry and graph work Parents looking for a complete, tidy kit without having to pick individual items It’s less suited for: Advanced technical drawing or engineering courses that demand specialist, high‑precision tools Users who already have a preferred compass, rulers, or pencils and only need a single replacement item Final verdict – why 4 stars? I’m rating the Helix Oxford Maths Set with Storage Tin 4 stars because: Pros: Comprehensive 10‑piece set, sturdy and accurate tools, excellent storage tin, good value for money, everything needed for school and exam work. Cons: Compass is good but not exceptional, pencil is basic, tin lid could be a bit more secure. For most students, this is a smart, hassle‑free choice. It’s reliable, well‑organised, and covers all the essentials. If you want a solid, no‑fuss maths set that will last through school and exams, this is a very good option – just not quite perfect enough for a full 5 stars. ## Frequently Bought Together - Helix Oxford Maths Set with Storage Tin - Casio fx-300ES Plus 2nd Edition – Standard Scientific Calculator | 262 Functions, Natural Textbook Display℠ | Ideal for Middle School, High School Math, Statistics & Algebra | Black - Texas Instruments TI-30XIIS Scientific Calculator, Black with Blue Accents --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.nl/products/48062173-oxford-maths-set-with-storage-tin-10-piece-maths-equipment](https://www.desertcart.nl/products/48062173-oxford-maths-set-with-storage-tin-10-piece-maths-equipment) --- *Product available on Desertcart Netherlands* *Store origin: NL* *Last updated: 2026-10-03*
