Yes, this honing guide will accept both hand plane blades and chisels. The lower jaws are for chisels from 3mm to 50mm wide. The upper jaws are for plane blades from 37 to 67mm wide.

What’s the lowest size in mm can it take?

The inner faces can touch. But realistically it depends on the stiffness/rigidity of the item you wish to grip. Have used it with a 1/8 mortice chisel with no problem.

Hello E.Susan Storey, all you have to do is, put the Chisel or Plane blade in the honing guide, don't tighten it yet.Then put the blade onto the stone or whatever you are using and make sure the cutting edge of the blade is level with the stone etc,. tighten the blade in the honing guide and you should be good to go and get sharpening.If you use youtube, just write "Honing Guide" in the Search panel, and find everything you need to know about sharpening your chisels, or planes or whatever. Yes. It does work with plane blades , chisels and scrapers. It has two width settings both with Vee grooves to grab the tool. Very strongly recommend you get a diamond honing block instead of a stone version. That wears away in the middle over time. This is an invaluable tool. Keep it dry after use and it will last you years.
