But this did not disappoint. It has much of the same mix of ...
I was wary of this as sequels and seeing your young acting heroes as they age reprising a role from their youth can be disappointing. But this did not disappoint. It has much of the same mix of wry Scottish humour, crassness, energy, kickass soundtrack, and pathos of the original, plus added nostalgia. There was a chord of sadness and wistfulness through this that was new, and probably will resonate with many of us in this generation, who have aged with the actors and are now looking back on a good portion of our lives and taking stock. Really enjoyed this sequel - did the original justice.

cant round my comment up in one media-freindly soundbite, amazon
look: Maybe boyle and this is SOMEHAT genius, relatively. but i have some things to pick on it.The is how its wishy=-washy and erroneous or too "feel good":1: no one cares about at least single men over 402 perhaps those kinda "working mens" pubs; at least with ciggaretee machines perhaps dont exist anymore. Read into that a social-commentary iof you want maybe.but it does capture some of the social hoplelessess of post 40 year-old malehood in a toxiciacally femnine distopian ambivlient etc soceityi was never into that whole "ooo lets get into the vibe wrckless lager lager lgare BS" of the ninelties version NOR THAT AS THE 90'S ZIETGIEST may i tell ya.THE WHOLE: goiing along with the drugs culture was not big or clever.. in my book.. and the way it was NOT SATIRISED so much as maybe-gloriefied.. the way some things arent deealt with from a theatrical persective.. merely refelcted.. and the loud bacng instead of proper theatrical techniques are more tyhan commonplace now..but the 90's was the second 60's and many people seemed to juts accept it as "coming together maaan"i dont.incidenrtly i would the scottish culture questioned the feminism and the progresso nazi culture maybe..but.. take care anyway

Trainspotting 2 - an excellent follow-up
I was a bit worried that Trainspotting 2 would be a disappointing follow-up but it's great. All the returning cast give excellent performances and that the actors have aged since the original worksd really well as the characters are a little bit more mature and have some more grown-up concerns than before. I say a little bit more mature because this is still Renton, Begby, Sick Boy and Spud we're talking about and each still has a penchant for mischief. The story is intriguing and fun and avoids dips into typical predictable territory by throwing up some good plot twists and questionable character motivations. It only loses a star for not being as energetic and mind-blowing as the original. Despite that, this is still a very good and very worthy sequel.

A worthy sequel
It was never going to be able to recreate the iconic status of the first film, partly as it's increasingly difficult to do iconic. However, it's a worthy sequel, bringing the characters and the production up-to-date. All of the protaganists play their part, with Robert Carlyle stealing the show, for me, with an unsettling performance as the wonderfully psychotic Begbie. Some of the nods to the original felt a little contrived/obvious but, on the whole, the film is nicely done.

If you loved the original, you'll love this too......
Oh yes!! Renton, Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie are back with a bang. I did wonder if they could replicate the original, but they have achieved their aim. There's some uncomfortable viewing (as per the original), but this is the film of friends (or enemies?!) who try to break free, but ultimately are drawn back to their roots. Banging soundtrack too; it was worth waiting 20 years for this!!

A brilliant sequel
Actually, this is a really good movie that you might be very glad to plump for as an evening's entertainment. We catch up with everyone that mattered from the first film and the new stories (or series of great scenes, as per the first film), weaved in with the old, make sense. Some of the acting is almost frighteningly realistic - no giveaways, but you'll find yourself viscerally experiencing places you can never, ever go to in real life: because there's no admission for the likes of you.Better than the first film and intelligently scripted. The cityscape panorama you get to see is way better than the rather over-praised one in La La Land. I can't quite give it five stars, because earlier Ewan McG flick Shallow Grave is better and Pulp Fiction is better still, but this is well worth watching and should be absolutely unmissable if you were entertained by episode #1.

Choose......T2
This must have been a great movie because at the end I just had to jump in front of the tv to check the credits for the amazing sound track and..... I dipped into the director and actors commentaries on the DVD which were illuminating. A rare accolade that the sequel definitely lives up to the original picture. I guess we all bought into the portrayal of those flawed characters 20 years ago. For me the back stories were just right and believable. The links to the original movie will please fans. Highly recommended.

A surprisingly excellent sequel.
I was expecting to be disappointed with this, as its a sequel, and the first was so good. But I was more than pleasantly surprised. The story caries on perfectly, with a mix of dark humour, laugh out loud comedy, moments of hope, despair, excitement, and a few twists and turns. If you're a fan of any of Mr Welsh's books or films, this is a must.
