Brilliant and recommended to anyone.
I've decided to give the Wusthof diamond steel a review now as the steel is now at the end of its days.I brought this steel back in May 2013 after paying what I recall being around £40 I was hoping for a decent steel. What I can say is this is the best steel I have ever used, always keeps your knife sharp. This Wusthof steel went through 10 months of intense use. ( I was a chef at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant in London) So this diamond steel was sometimes used 15-20 times a day, 4 days a week. From a chef's point of view I would recommend this to any chef looking for a decent steel ( I had fellow chefs saying it was an awesome steel)As a home cook £40 is a lot of money for a once in a while sharpen, However with little use I can only imagine it will last for a far few years.

Perfect steel for getting the sharpest knives
Having previously used V-sharpeners for my knives I was persuaded to buy a proper steel. Apparantly the V-sharpeners only sharpen a certain amount and getting any sharper than that isn't possible without a steel. I now use the steel every time I take a knife from the rack to use and every time I put one back on the rack after washing and my knives have never been sharper. It only needs a few strokes on each side but the continuous, incremental, sharpening pays dividends and using my knives is an absolute joy. The most dangerous thing in a kitchen (other than pans of boiling oil) are blunt knives as they are prone to slip and need excessive pressure to cut. With sharp knives, so long as you use proper cutting and holding techniques, your knives become safer and the quality of your food will increase (sharper knives mean less bruising when cutting vegetables/fruit and less tearing when cutting meat/fish). The oval shape of the steel gives a larger contact area with the blade and so makes sharpening quickly easier and safer - less pressue and fewer strokes means less chance of slipping and hurting yourself.

nice piece of kit
Very prompt service from the supplier, the steel itself has a nice weight to it and has brought a good edge to my tired sabatiers. Worked effortlessly, and was much better than a cheaper type.I will be interested to see how long it lasts.

Brilliant results ... and so easy to use.
I’ve had Wusthof knives for years now. They’re the best and as a keen home cook I appreciate having good sharp knives. I have and electric sharpener ( €100 worth ) and also a ‘pull through’ style sharpener ( freebie ) as well as an ordinary sharpening steel which I never really used. I bought the electric one because I wanted to keep my knives really sharp but didn’t think I could master the swish swish sharpening you always see chefs doing on tv without severing a hand. How wrong I was! Having become frustrated with the ‘semi-sharp’ results from the electric sharpener I finally bought this. If, like I was, you’re afraid of using one of these - relax! It’s easy and the results are fantastic! The oval surface gives more contact with the blade and this steel leaves knives brilliantly sharp - like new in fact! It’s brilliant and easy to use!

The best so far
I've got several knife sharpening devices, including Wusthof steel-based steels. I've also got an electric sharpener that was quite expensive. This diamond steel is excellent. It really gets an edge and the oval shape makes it easier to use than a round one. The edge it leaves feels quite rough and I sometimes refine this with a fine ceramic steel, but it gets knives sharp very quickly.

Possibly the Daddy of all steels?
This was delivered on time today, the first thing I done was to sharpen my 'Lion' meat knife and then the remaining knives that needed doing since my previous steel became so smooth as to be non effective. So I've listened to my son (A Chef) and spent a bit more on this Wusthof fine diamond steel, which he assures me is the business!! He's had his for years and is used almost daily. Well having got to work on my knives I'm happy to say they are now like razors and I might add with little pressure or effort being used. I am so happy, they really have never been this sharp since new. I will leave a review in the near future once I've used sufficiently to assess durability, but having listened to my son and the fact his is going strong, I'm hopeful of this steel having some longevity. 5 Stars for now.

Sharpens dull knives with ease.
Extremely pleased with the quality and efficiency of this steel.Care should be taken when sharpening, 2 or 3 light strokes on either side of the blade is all that's required.More than this would remove excess metal and wear the blade prematurely.
