My camera has infrared mode, it works in complete blackness, but the infrared light that comes from it only works at short range. would this work?

Yes it would work, but how well depends on quality of camera. I tried with a low quality 720 action cam and it could illuminate about 12 feet away indoors, used with a 4k action cam it could see the full room easily and would see further outdoors.

I bought one and received it today I tried the light with my camera and I can barely see anything, anyone got any tips on how to make this brighter?

They are not night vision to any camera, as the best response says. These are mostly used for pre-2000 cameras OR a camera with no IR filter (either because it comes that way or you removed it). One downside to this is that your photos will have a purple hue, but if you remove the IR filter for NV purposes, I am guessing you do not want to take photos during the day.

how do you open it to change or put in the battery..

With the rubber button at the rear facing you turn anti-clockwise the metal round casing next to the clip that surrounds this button. Probably coloured orange. Load with a new AA battery positive terminal facing towards the lens. Screw back together. Avoid looking into the lens close up for too long or at all when powered up.

can i fit it on a nighfox 100v

Not sure, it’s not very powerful at all, in fact mine went in the bin and I purchase a better IR torch, get what you pay for I suppose
