Smaller version of their Manfrotto style V504 head I found it perfect for my travel tripod since I don't really care for the ball mount head that came with the tripod as they cannot be used for video or pan shots easily. The head seems nice and sturdy and well made. As a plus it uses the standard Acra-Swiss mounting system.

I was looking for a way to raise the height of my tripod to facilitate movements of the Benro geared head. Although Benro offers one for that specific purpose, I found that other heads not only would raise the tripod height, but add additional features. Here it is where the Avella head is such a great buy! It is a pleasure to touch it and just to hold in your hand: high quality materials and great, fine machining. The panning movement and tilting are a bit tight but I like it since it prevents the camera from too easily moving around. Probably it will loosen up a bit with more use. The arm is also great: it is detachable and expandable. And I just love the color of the head! The Avella head is a nice addition to my tripod head collection.

Works like it should, very sturdy, very safe. Made a cheap tripod a great tripod.

Update: 4star - Contacted by seller and given full refund. Will try again hopefully next one last1star- After a few months of use, the plate locking knob broke off. For a part that is used often I’d think it would be constructed better but as you see in the pictures it’s hollow. Unfortunately return period is over and now I will have to find another head unit
