Scotts Evergreen Handy Spreader

I've been using granular feed on my lawn for a while, however as I've been throwing it over the lawn, it has left patches where it's not spread evenly over the lawn. I therefore decided to give this a go. It's slightly bigger than I thought it would be, however it's very sturdy and well made. It's very easy to use - just fill the hopper, turn the handle and squeeze the trigger to let the granules out. One hopper full is enough to cover my entire lawn in one go. It does come out at quite a rate (adjustable though) and sprays in quite a large arc of around 180 degrees. It delivers so fast I can cover my lawn in under a minute using this, without also having to lug a bag of feed around. For the price, this gives a significantly better means of delivery and it is well worth the money.

Easy way to spread things like grass seed, fertiliser pellets or soil improver pellets evenly. The handle design means it's supported by your wrist as well as your hand, leaving the other hand free to turn the crank. Simple effective design.

Works very well

Very well made and easy to use. However the instructions for different settings were not easy to understand and had to go on line to get instructions.

Arrived in good time as scheduled. However, no instructions at all with it. Not difficult to figure out and I have read the other reviews so know to keep it topped up.

Great for spreading everything evenly

I needed to spread a lot of grass seed, mostly on steep slopes, so this seemed a better solution to the push along type of spreader. Also for something that will be used very occasionally if at all in the future it is a good value solution. The spreader is operated by turning a handle on the side which spins a wheel that the contents drop on to and there is an adjustment knob to regulate the flow. The hand grip with the arm rest works well so the arm is taking the weight rather than the wrist. Pulling a trigger opens the exit hole and the flow adjustment just limits the amount it opens. I found that unless I set it to fully open very little seed at all comes out. A further control is the speed of turning the handle which dictates how far out the seed is thrown. The faster you turn the further the seed is thrown so the thinner the coverage tends to be. The flow also drops a little as the level in the hopper reduces. All the above leads to it not being very accurate and that is probably true but it does the job. I think it is better to judge the coverage by knowing the area you wish to cover with a full hopper and go over that area until empty. Also note that the hopper needs a bit of shaking as the level gets low and needs to be leaned a little to encourage the grass to come out. I have not tried it with any other product so it could be that different forms of fertiliser flow easier. The bottom line for me is that I was able to easily spread a known amount of grass seed over a known area and I now have the start of a decent lawn. All without having an expensive piece of kit in the shed which I will probably never use again so it has been really good value for money and did the job intended. This worked far better than I expected and bought at a bargain price on Amazon. Use with Evergreen 4 in 1. Contrary to some reviews, it worked brilliantly, did four lawned areas (0.25 acre) within a very short space of time. Far better than spreading by hand. No issues with it sticking/clogging. Achieved very even coverage. Just be careful when starting/stopping/turning; keep on the move to avoid any sudden release of fertilizer in one spot. It does tend to aim to the left, this is inherent because of the direction of the rotating paddle which offloads the fertilizer to the left, and the fact that the right hand side is blanked because of the location of the cranking wheel. Just bare that in mind and compensate by aiming the device appropriately. Update 1: This device will also spread new grass seed very effectively. However, some seed will inevitably be cast into adjacent plant borders. Two years on, I am still pulling out stray grass clumps out of those borders...so be careful where you use this device!

Dosierung und Handhabung nicht optimal

Es práctico, pequeño, manejable, esparce perfectamente y de momento no se atranca el abono como en otros que he tenido. Veremos si aguanta el paso del tiempo porque la manivela parece endeble pero de momento cumple con mis expectativas al 100%.

Semé du gazon sur 200 m2. Très bonne dispersion après réglage. Je m'en servirai durant l'hiver pour disperser du sel de déneigement.

Funciona muy bien con el tipo correcto de fertilizante. Exactamente lo que necesitaba para mi jardín. Ayuda a esparcir el fertilizante muy uniformemente, lo que no se puede hacer a mano.
