According to the write-up on the underneath of the lid of the box where these water colours reside (the only bit I could understand as the rest is written in Japanese), they conform to ASTM D 4236 so, yes, they ought to be lightfast. The pigment is lovely, really vibrant and gorgeous. Will these paints show up on black paper?

yes and no, it does with a thick layer of the paint

Can these paints be used as gouache, rather than watercolour?

A watercolourist may find them to be "opaque" but someone who works with gouache will find them very transparent. Gansai is not truly like either watercolour or gouache in the Western sense, and is pigments in a glue binder (which varies by colour and by brand) used as a convenient stand in for hand grinding pigments and mixing with glue in Japanese Nihonga, like a practice paint I suppose.
