VornadoVelocity 5R Whole Room Space Heater with Remote Control, Black

I was on the fence about purchasing this space heater because I kept reading about mediocre heat output and the heater being noisy. Glad I made the jump and purchased this because the Vornado Velocity 5R is OUTSTANDING. I'd like to address a few things I've read in negative reviews...1. Noise. On low heat, the noise is negligible; it's no louder than any other space heater I've owned. On high heat, the fan does crank up, and obviously puts out more noise. But even on high, it's about 42 decibels (which I confirmed with Vornado support) which isn't -that- loud. I read reviews, "Oh, I can't even watch TV with this thing on it's so loud!!!!" That's so hyperbolic. It's not anywhere near as loud as some of the reviews make it out to be. And again, on low heat, it's relatively quiet.2. Heat output. I've seen a few reviews complain about the heat output or even state that this thing just pushes out lukewarm air. I completely disagree -- this heater pushes out a TON of heat. I think some of these reviews had it on fan-only mode and didn't realize it or maybe their unit was defective. Either way, pay no mind to the reviews that are critical of this heater's heat output. I've owned a dozen or so space heaters from different brands during my lifetime and I'm very impressed with the unit's heating capabilities.3. Get the Velocity 3R. The 3R has the same heating specs and wattage as the Velocity 5R, and I feel the extra features included in the 5R (like the cord storage compartment) don't justify the increased price. The auto climate feature on the 5R isn't really that great; I don't even use it. If money isn't an issue for you, then sure, get the 5R. But for most people, the 3R is going to be more than fine.Overall, a great product with some nice features and safety features. I wish that the 5R had a bit more to offer over the 3R, but I'm still comfortable giving it five stars.**NOTE ON THE AUTO CLIMATE** This heater dynamically adjusts the temperature of the heat based on what the thermostat is set to. Just crank it all the way up to a maximum of 90 and this will ensure that the heater is always producing the hottest air possible. I think some people don't do this and this is why that they claim that the heater only produces "lukewarm air"

What a perfect heater! But to be honest, I had a Vornado previously which, after over ten years, developed a problem with the on/off switch and related piece behind it. It wouldn't turn off even though I had turned the switch off. Scarey! I toggled the switch a couple of times and it went off. I had it repaired but it only worked for a while and took it back for repair. The shop was a terrible place with lots of complaints (I learned later). It again only worked briefly, and that shop closed (good!). I came across some old reviews by companies that do reviews that said the Vornado (at that time) had a bit of history of sometimes developing problems with turning on or off. So I decided to buy a new heater and at first tried other well-know brands. But having used a Vornado, there was something different about them. Even though some blew out the heat, it either didn't travel very far, or it didn't feel very warm by the time it got a few feet away. I turned to Vornado -- and ouila! This heater is perfect, especially with its added features. I really like it and fee secure with using it. I need to replace the HVAC in my condo when Spring arrives ($5500!!). It doesn't seem to get as warm as previously when temps drop below 25, 30 degrees. For now, I use the Vornado to supplement the heat in my bedroom early mornings or before going to bed. The thermostat works perfectly. Yes, it may go a point or two above the desired temp, but it reduces the fan and comes down and settles at the exact temp. I have had no problems and the heat feels just right as it hits me, as well as in the surrounding area in my medium sized bedroom. I almost missed the remote as it is tiny, light and thin. My clicking it hasn't worked, but honestly, I haven't read the instructions, and don't know if it has or needs a battery, if it only changes settings or also turns it on/off, etc. I do not believe in reviewing anything that I haven't read all instructions on line as info that comes with the product. Many customers do that and I believe it is not fair to the vendor or the manufacturer. Maybe I will update later. Right now, I am in love with my Vornado -- again.

Got this in Sept. 2023. Had it about a week and it quit working. The company replaced the unit with a new one and it worked pretty well all winter. This year I turned it on and smelled burning wires. It ran OK for about an hour and I turned it off. The next time I turned it on the fan would not come on at all. I could tell it tried to heat up because I felt the heat when I put my hand in front of it - but the fan would not work. I will not waste my time replacing it with another one…

Have had other Vornado heaters that were great and was expecting same from this unit. You're better off with a 30$ hair dryer. Plus, the seller, MareVista, did not offer any restitution. Overall, an unusually poor experience from Amazon. Avoid both. Instead, order the VMHI600 from another seller.
