A must for thinking about its subject.
First class - accurate knowledge lucidly deployed. Basic thesis, well supported by facts: USA around the end of the second world war set itself to achieve global hegemony not by conquest but by rendering other states essentially client states. The familiar structure of nation states would remain but would no longer correspond to reality. The objectives: first military power, second the US capitalist/free enterprise/neo-liberal economic order; third democracy - often a poor third e.g in Kissinger's arranging for the deposition of the democratically elected Allende in Chile because a viable left wing alternative to the US economic order would weaken its claim to be the only alternative to communism.Whether you end up agreeing with the book or not it will have contributed to you knowledge and stimulated your thoughts like no other I have come across.

An antidote to US triumphalism, but,,
A dyspeptic view of American foreign policy. Well informed and beautifully written the underlying Marxist analysis is a jejune framework that seeks to reduce the highly complex response of the U.S. to the world to a simple view of a country in the device of capital.

A serious look at the US foreign policy
A rare serious look at the US foreign policy. Perhaps not the easiest read.
