Teenagers In Love
Reading ancient literature is a mixed bag. This is among the most entertaining I’ve read. The translation is wonderful and easy to read, the storyline “typical” in the flow and predictable in outcome - yet it brings tears, smiles, laughs and understanding of two teenage lovers. A fun, quick and easy read.

A sociological treatise for the Second Century
I thought I'd read this work years ago. In fact my wife gave it to me as a wedding present, I think because she liked the illustrations by Maillol. but that was an incomplete edition. The interesting thing to me now about this work is what it shows of first or second century life in an agrarian society, where most of the characters are slaves to an almost invisible ownership. The people are well-meaning but ignorant (of course no one can read and write), especially when it comes to basic human matters such as sexuality, which I gather was as much a taboo then as it is now. The book illustrates how it is possible to cope even with these limitations.

Excellent Product
I needed this for school with line numbers, so the authors reference numbers really helped. I also needed a physical copy of the book, so this helped too. Thank you Amazon customer support for helping me find this.

Delightful story, beautifully translated
An excellent edition of 'Daphnis and Chloe', one of classical literature's loveliest stories. Useful introduction and notes make it a pleasure to read.

ancient love story
This is a review of the Penguin Classics translation by Paul Turner. The book is an ancient Greek novel from about the first or second century of the common era. It is beautifully written and constructed and both touching and moving. It is a wonderful example of the literature of the Greco-Roman world before that world was forever lost and corrupted and destroyed by the ignorance, stupidity, and vulgarity of the early Christians and their death cult. Daphnis and Chloe are adolescents on the brink of love and who go through any number of adventures before they can become united. Read this book. You will not be disappointed.
