The Great House of God

"...I want to come home", who hasn't voiced that desire at least once in their life? Pastor Max Lucado writes longingly of the promise of this abode in his exposition of the Lord 's Prayer, "The Great House of God".Lucado brings his pastoral gifts to the five great verses from Matthew's gospel, bringing each thought of the praise and petition into full bloom as a chapter of its own. Though brief, the chapters give the reader enough to savor for a week of prayer time. His subtle shifting of emphasis in the opening verse for example-our FATHER and OUR father-can leave you to meditate upon the importance of these words corporately and by themselves. Room by room Pastor Lucado continues the tour until you cannot wait to enter the gates of heaven and settle into the place promised just for you, `safe and secure from all alarm'.If you are not a fan of Lucado's work, give this book an opportunity. It is not a deep theological tome but that is not his genre. Filled with his trademark folksy charm, it is meant to lift your eyes and heart to the promise of the prayer rather than dwelling on the technical aspects of the verses. I found myself enjoying the chapters and the subsequent reflection so much that it too much longer to read this book than the 160 pages would lead me to expect. Perhaps it is just this that makes the book so good, the slow release of the spiritual nourishment, the savoring of joy and the increased longing for the promise of the great house of God.

Max Lucado takes apart Jesus' prayer "the Our Father" in great detail making clear God's love for his children. As usual his style of writing is fun and amusing - and SO in depth! He really brings us closer to understanding the awesome amazing overwhelming love of God through this wonderful prayer.

There is so so much to grasp in this book. I love how Max Lucado walks us through the Lord's Prayer. There is so much to learn and walk away with. I know I have enjoyed this; I wanted to get it read right away to get my review up quickly to get on to the next book, but then I started and had to really take my time and really let this book just sink right in. I can tell you I have walked away with so much from this book.I give this book a rating of five stars!!! No not to just get you to read it, but because I like the approach that Max Lucado has taken to bring us through the Lord's Prayer. He gives us an understanding of who God is and what He has done for us. This has really drawn me to learn and know God more. Always love Max Lucado’s writing!! He took a very familiar prayer and compared it to the ‘house’ God has for us...wish I was as good with words as he is...but it gives your mind wonderful visuals!! I pray all who read this book, dwell fully with God in His house!!

A beautiful book. Simple basics made very inspiring.

I bought this intending to give it as a gift because it is my favorite Max Lucado book. I bought it and selected (new book), not used. I just got home and opened my package. The jacket on the book is tattered and the pages are yellowed. This is NOT a new book! The contents of the book gets 5 stars (I read it several times), but the condition of the book I purchased as new gets “0” stars.

Love this book on the Lord's Prayer. I bought these for my Sunday School class.

A beautifully written book of a Christian encouragement!

Another superbly written book

This is the best book I have read since facing your giants. The Lord's Prayer is too often just something we recite and not something we look at in depth. My plan is now to teach my children not just how to pray but the importance of what we pray.

Purchased this for my mum which she really enjoyed and will be passing on to others. Can't fault Max Lucado.

fantastic but all his books are great, good books for christians

A bit muffled, but very thought provoking
