Sweetest book
Sweetest book I have read to my kids in a long time. Ariel Bernstein really is so in tune with young readers. I love her cute stories and i adore the illustrations. Definitely buying more of her books

An absolutely delightful book
“I Have a Balloon” has a tone reminiscent of P.D. Eastman’s classic “Are You My Mother” but is more irreverent with modern day humor sensibilities. Scott Magoon’s loose, expressive illustrations complements Ariel Bernstein’s seemingly simple yet deeply meaningful text beautifully. The writing is nuanced and doesn't hit you over the head with a message even if you want to read it as a lesson on sharing. I prefer to read it as a hilarious observation of toddler (and adult) behavior and thinking. This is a brilliant book that will stand up to multiple readings in one sitting, and for years to come. It is definitely one of my all-time favorites!

This book subtly presents the idea of sharing and satisfaction with what you have WITHOUT being pedantic or preachy. The illustrations are lively and engaging and the text is humorous. The author also perfectly hits a reading level that are perfect for children ready to launch from co-reading to solo reading. After one read through my twin six-year olds were independently picking out words and reading back and forth to each other. Magic! Love it!

The story is paired with perfect illustrations that beamed with humor and personality
Children will recognize themselves in this charming tale. Owl has a lovely red balloon that Monkey suddenly thinks he must have. He offers to trade, but who would trade such a lovely red balloon? This is a classic tale of wanting something that belongs to someone else. But what happens when Monkey reveals his unique possession? The story is paired with perfect illustrations that beamed with humor and personality. Utterly timeless!

Very simple and very honest. I liked how this book revealed fleeting desires and how to appreciate the simplest things

Great for all ages!
I read this to a group of kids ranging from 2 years to 6 years old. They loved the bright and detailed illustrations and asked me to read it again! They wanted to find a sock with a hole in it to play with - this book is a big hit with our family!

Hysterical for all ages
This book is hysterical and will work for all ages! I can see reading it to a two-year-old, one-on-one, as well as to a whole class of third graders. (In fact, my seventh grader enjoyed it!) The clever, arch humor is very sophisticated yet accessible for all. Well done!

Ok, liked the idea.
I enjoy the story and the premise of this, but kids just didn't connect to it. It is not one of our more requested books.
