Moon Kentucky (Moon Handbooks) Paperback – June 3, 2014

Ms. Blackinton, I hope you get to read this because you have a fan for life!I am a Kentuckian by choice, having fallen in love with the state 15 years ago. Some of my friends & family don't quite 'get' my choice-- no problem anymore, now all I need to do is hand them this book. With a loving touch, this amazingly readable - not at all dry!!!- guidebook paints the subtle & hard-to-define differences between Kentucky's regions. Then she tackles the major differences without even a hint of stereotyping; but realistically, no rose-colored glasses here. Yes, she has personally been to innumerable restaurants & parks & even points out the drive-in theatres! So her recommendations sound genuine and fully express the range of enthusiasm from "worth a few minutes of your time" to "absolutely don't miss this!". But what I never expected was a few pages interspersed thru the book giving cultural context... Such as 'to appreciate Appalachia, you have to spend time; people here like to talk and meeting them is as much an experience as seeing a coal mine.' That's a paraphrase of a beautifully explained section.Her accuracy about the regions I am intimately familiar with gives me complete confidence in her descriptions of the areas I wish to visit.Well done! There's not another guidebook about Kentucky out there that can match this one! (And I've been looking for years!)

Book arrived earlier than expected, & is in like brand new condition so in better condition than expected. Was a great buy!

I was looking for a book that showed off my home state in a way that others could see it, even if they didn't read English. The previews lead me to believe that it was more of colored pictures. It only has a few color pictures (in the front of the book), the rest are black and white pictures with a tour guide information. A couple of the pages were bent when I received it. I didn't give it away as a gift like I wanted. However, I did keep the book because I love my home state and I could use it to explore more of my state.

if you're going to kentucky this book is a must. it even has kentucky recipies in it. The only thing i wish it had was a section on horse farms alone. but that's kind of a specialty item, so i can't really fault the book for that. the book is very well layed out and has tonnes of traveler information. Also has lots of easy to read maps, and little insider tips/stories depending upon where you're going.

book, provides decent overview, but not much more than what one can easily find on the Internet. Reasonably current, price is fine.

Great travel/visitor information about Kentucky.

For travelling in Europe and Asia I use the Rough Guide, or sometimes the Bradt Guide. But for the USA, this is the best guide you can get, as no one else gives you the detail for a small region such as a state. This summer I used the Moon Guides for Nevada, Utah, and national parks of Death Valley and Joshua Tree, and I'm looking forward to a future trip to Kentucky and Tennessee.
