Great story
It was longer than I expected. Very informative, too. My son says he wants to be a soldier when he grows up and this was perfect for him!

Story about the US Army for kids
My students loved this! I had to leave out quite a few details (my students have special needs and are very young), but they loved finding out about Jake and his Army Report at school.

Engaged a young reader
My son enjoyed reading all about the Army and Uniforms. There are not many children's books about the military, so I am glad we found a good one.

You're in the Army Now!
This book is geared towards elementary school students, and tells about a career in the U. S. Army. The story-line centers on a school assignment a boy named Jake has. Each student has to give an oral report about what he would like to be when he grows up, what career he would like to pursue.Don't know what to do? Talk with others!Jake has no idea what he wants to do, so that evening talks with his Dad. His Father reminds him he was in the army. That causes Jake to consider joining the Army.During a trip to an Army surplus store, Jake's Dad explains the variety of careers that are available in the Army. From this discussion Jake learns what the different ranks are, what many of the insignia and medals stand for, along with the importance the military is to our country.Wouldn't a book filled with facts be boring? This book had lots of information that would be perfect for school aged children to read, yet it was not overwhelming. The great pictures on every page illustrate and add a lot to the narrative. All the data was creatively added as part of a story-line that followed Jake working on a school assignment. That made the volume more like a story instead of a book with a bunch of dry facts. For boys only?Although this story followed a boy, girls would enjoy this book, too. In fact there was a side story about a classmate of Jake’s named Hannah. She had a surprise career choice that was revealed in the end.I found this 5-star book very interesting and learned things myself--including what GI stands for. You can find the answer to that question, along with many other fascinating facts, in this volume. This narrative would be a great resource for students working on an assignment about careers, as well as, a very informative work for anyone who wants to learn about the U. S. Army. The goal of this book's publishing company, Wigu Publishing, is that their books will be: "both educational and fun, our stories are told through the eyes of young boys and girls, and will inspire them to reach their full potential and become contributing citizens of this great country!" That goal has certainly been met with this book, and I recommend it.I’d like to thank the author for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book for the purpose of review. Make The Army A Career?!
I am happy to have received the opportunity to review another book from Wigu. Two of my brothers have been in the Army, one is currently serving. I have had other family members that served in the Army as well. It is with great pride that they have and I am glad that Wigu is show casing this branch as they have with the other branches.I liked the fact that Jake was taken to a Army Surplus store to learn about the different insignia, uniforms, and jobs. It was nice for me to learn terminology because I do not always have a clue when my brother uses certain terms. The author included a glossary in the back which is also very helpful.I would have liked to have seen some Army base photos but maybe for security reasons, that was not possible. Still, the real life photos that were presented in the book was a nice juxtapose to the cartoon characters. I really do not like the drawings for the most part but as I have said before, I can overlook that aspect since this is a children's book. There was a little history interspersed among the pages and even the "Soldier's Creed" was in the front of the book. I enjoyed seeing that information, it is what makes the U.S. Army great! The overall theme of the book is that it takes thousand of men and women to protect our country. They are brave, as are all military personnel, they keep us safe, and we should be grateful for their service.I recommend for 8+5 Stars!----------Side note: Wigu worked directly with the U.S. Army and retired Army soldiers to give correct information for this book. They noted the "Wounded Warriors Project" and I ask you to support their effort if you can do so.Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my open and honest opinion.
