Gulls of North America Paperback – March 22, 2022

I've found this book to be helpful in identifying gulls. I wish it had a separate section where all of the gull photos are presented together for more way comparison. The fold out plate doesn't have all plumages.

If you anything like me, you might view this book on Amazon and think it is in a standard book size. But it is not! It is more of a field guide size with a thicker cover and glossy pages, like a field guide would be but it is not a field guide as it does not have maps.This is a gull family/species focused identification book in a field guide format. It covers all regularly occurring NA gulls as well as several known vagrants. It has excellent pictures and copious descriptions for each species. The best value here is both the pictures but also the excellent plumage/aging descriptions (these are gulls after all!).The book also contains several nice custom features including a special pull out card "quick ID" set in the middle of the book as well as a solid glossary of terms, anatomy illustrations and interesting case studies of known gull sites, famous fallout events, etc.All in all, I love the book and wish that there more more just like it for other bird families in North America.

After reading this book. It is easier

I'm very happy with this book. It's very comprehensive, well-researched and very helpful. Definitely a big step up from the information provided in even good field guides like Sibley. It's helped me get a much better grasp of gull identification and is an interesting read on top of that. Well done and definitely worth buying.

The book is very well written and researched. This book has the answers to the many questions one has concerning gull habits and life cycles. I would recommend the book to anyone wanting to learn more about gulls.

The storied and ID written material is superb.

Comprehensive, clear, concise, phenomenal detail to assist with identification, superb illustrations and photographs. Considering how much I love gull-watching, I can't believe it took me almost 20 years to add this superb guide to my birding library.
