THE best work watch!
This watch is absolutely phenomenal. I have gone through several Timex watches on the job and none lasted more than a year, some much less. I operate machinery for a living, and occasionally run heavy duty impact guns, and I think this is where my Timex’s have failed in the past - the inner workings just get shaken to pieces, literally. The great thing about the GShock line is they are built ruggedly. They will take quite a bit of abuse; water, impacts, grease, oil, etc. That ruggedness comes at a cost, however - size. GShocks are infamously bulky, rubbery, and seem to catch on everything. If you’re looking at a GShock for fashion, rock on! Get as big and bulky a watch as you want. If you’re like me though, looking for a watch to work in, a watch constantly getting snagged is not only irritating, it can be dangerous or deadly (e.g. caught in a piece of machinery). The great thing about THIS GShock watch is it is much thinner than other bulky GShocks, which is why I purchased it. It doesn’t get snagged near as easily, but so far has held up very well to its brand name.I prefer analog watches, but don’t like setting the date every month in the little date window most analog watches have. As a result of this, I normally never look at the date on my watches prior to this one, because it is constantly wrong. Call me lazy, I know. This watch is analog and digital and is honestly the best of both worlds. It has a built in calendar so you set the month, date, and year one time, and you don’t have to reset it until you change the battery. It will always show the correct date whether this month has 30, 31, 28, or 29 days.Hands down the best thing about this watch is the absence of a crown, or stem (you know, the little scrolly thing you use to adjust the time). I did not realize this before I ordered it and I was ecstatic when I recieved it and realized it. Reason being, I’ve also broken a few watches by sticking my hand in my pocket, hand goes inside pocket, watch catches on the outside of pocket, and when I remove my hand from my pocket it pulls the crown out. On a good day, this just stops a normal watch and you realize it later, reset the time, and click it back in. On a bad day, you yank the entire crown out, and the watch is unrepairable. The absence of a crown on this watch is by far the best surprise I’ve had ordering from Amazon. The way you set the time is through the digital menus. You set the digital time, and then the hands of the watch move to that time.Pros:-Thin-Tough-Water resist to 20 bar-It has a second hand unlike most analog GShocks-Absence of a crownCons-Honestly I have tried and tried and I cannot think of a single one.

Comfortable and Clear
This is by far my favorite G-Shock out of the four I own. Light and easy to read face with an uncluttered design that has the date prominent and readily visible at a glance. Secondary to time, I always look for the date and hated how some versions needed an extra push of a button to bring up. I also believe the band on a watch is important since that constitutes the largest surface area touching your skin; that being said, this is extremely comfortable. G-Shocks from old (20 years ago) used a stiffer rubber that would get sweaty and a bit sticky, later versions used lighter plastic versions that had great utility value but felt flimsy and cheap, this one feels like a hybrid that is sturdy yet soft, flexible, dries quickly and has a nice matte finish. I also had gotten used to the dual pin clasp design found on my other G-Shocks and was wary about a single pin not being as secure - after wearing this it is a non-issue. You really can't tell the difference. This has now become my everyday watch.

Better than I thought
This watch exceeded my expectations. It's a simple watch that does what it's supposed to do without too many features or gimmicks that I won't use. This is intended to be a beater work watch. I'm not concerned about scratching the glass or delicate parts breaking, because this watch was built to last unlike many fancy smart watches. No need to charge it every night is also a major plus. The face is not too busy, it's clearly marked, has a second hand, and has a digital display for the day and date. Set it once then forget it. The bezel is not as thick as I thought. The face fits my wrist perfectly, not spilling over my wrists. Ideal for the price point.Only cons... I wish the hands would glow brighter in the dark. It's readable but could be brighter. However, the light is bright enough a readable in the dark. Also, a slight learning curve to set the time, but there are several tutorials on YouTube that do an excellent job of showing how to use the watch. It's actually quite simple once you get proper instructions.Only had the watch for a week, I'll be back if anything changes.

Great no-nonsense ana-digi G Shock
Simple, battery operated, non-solar, non-atomic, ana-digi G Shock. All the usual G Shock goodness, reliability, toughness, etc. in a nice sized, relatively thin (for a G Shock that is) form factor. Standard features, stopwatch, timer, alarms, hourly chime and second time zone. Automatic hand syncing with the digital readout is also a huge plus. and so are the LEDs (two of them) which illuminate both the digital display and the analog hands. Legibility on this G Shock is simply superb. It has none of the extraneous doodads and blinking displays that have been the norm with other G Shocks. Just the analog hands and a large and very readable digital display. Lume on this thing is surprisingly good! Although I would need to take one star off because only the hands are lumed. They should have put lume on some of the indices (12, 6, 9 maybe?) so you have a better orientation on what time it is in the dark. Sure you can use the excellent LED lights, but there will be times when you'd prefer to be a little more discreet in telling the time in the dark. This watch has the lume for it, but not in all areas where it would have mattered. Nonetheless it's still an excellent timepiece and one I still recommend.

Practical G-Shock
I have many different G-Shocks; the GA-800-1ACR is by far the most versatile and practical. This G-Shock is easy to read; both the analog and digital are large and have high contrast to the face. Other models have tiny, barely visible hands and/or totally useless digital displays. The GA-800-1A is quite slim and does not weigh as much as the other G-Shock models; it is comfortable to wear all day. The 2 led lights are extremely bright, almost ridiculously so. Needless to say, the time is easy to read in the dark with the super bright double LED’s.

Maybe if you are young...
The watch looks good and given the "clocks" that people wear nowadays it is a reasonable size.It seems robust enough. It has quite a few functions bu in the end I don't feel they actually serve the user.Firstly the unit has a "memory" function whereby it stores the time/date the stopwatch is started. I never would use it, but it shows up prominently in the rotation of functions on the LCD (you know from stopwatch->timer->date>memory) and sometimes it is hard to decipher whether it is the time/date or the memory on the display. The unit also has a feature to move the hands out of the way in order to see the LCD display. This is a great idea that falls down on implementation. The park position for the hands is 8:40 (perhaps there are other positions as well to optimise the travel. time, bu I only saw 8:40) The problem is that the hour hand is not independent, but is geared (divide by 12) to the minute hand. That means that in parking it takes several seconds for the watch to rotate through say, 3, 4, 5, 6 , 7 and 8 and stop at 8:40. Unparking is the reverse also taking a few seconds- you need patience. The timer only goes to about 90 minutes maximum (IIRC) and want 30 hours at least, Worse than that though- the frequency, volume and directionality of the alarm make it impossible to hear (maybe younger ears won't have the problem). The audio is the same for the alarm function and if I can't hear them, then both functions are useless.I decided to return the watch.

I’m very satisfied with this watch.
I ordered this watch between Christmas and New Years and I received it January 4, in rural Saskatchewan. With the holidays and Canada Post backlog, it came in record time. I’ve worn it all day, everyday since and it’s been flawless. I thought being larger than my old Timex, it would snag while working outside, but so far so good. Comfortable. It’s my first Casio, so time will tell how it stands up compared to my last Timex (it made 12 years with just a couple battery changes). I’m a farmer, so lots of different jobs, indoor and out. Good light for viewing in the dark. It does glow enough to not have to use the light if you’re just glancing for the time.

Good bang for buck
Easy to see in daylight or dark of night. The lighting is well done. Smaller than some of the other analogues and not too pricey for what you get. Auto lighting is nice at night. Alarms are loud. Good bang for buck.I ordered some spring bar adapters and put watch on a nylon Nato strap, it's very comfortable now.

Great watch
This is a great field watch, with a ton of quality, especially for the price. As long as you are a fan of the brutalist practical aesthetic, it is also pretty nice looking as well. It has a clean, uncluttered face, especially when compared to some of the other G-Shock offerings. It is a biggish watch, but still has a low enough profile to slip under the cuff of a shirt. The hands line up perfectly with the index marks - something that a lot of manufactures of more expensive watches cannot seem to manage to do on a consistent basis. The lume blazes enough to see in dim light when charged, and lasts all night (albeit at a lower intensity). The interface is pretty easy to use. I don't use the split lap and record functions at all, but the timer and alarms are useful and easy to set.If Casio issued a version of this watch with the tough solar option, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
