A Matter of Taste: a slog for me.
This plot was so morose and lacking in even the slightest cleverness or humor that I had to stop listening to the audio book. Waste of time and money. I realize the plot was very sad but it was not intriguing nor were the characters. Starting with the soul damaged ex-con, the dialog and action were surprisingly boring. I admire books and the effort to write an entire novel, but I would not recommend this book to a person who likes a lively atmosphere, I recently read Wally Lamb’s “The Hour I First Believed” which I much preferred.

Excellent read!
This is one of the best Christian fiction books I've ever read. The story was intense and I couldn't put it down. I loved the way Ms. Healy wove together the lives of the characters from present to past and back again. I hope that non-Christians who read it will understand the difference between the real, grace filled, spirit led believers and the legalistic, graceless church goer.As far as the description of it having a "paranormal " touch to it I'm not sure I would use that terminology. Perhaps supernatural would be better, but in either case it is a believable, if out-of-the-ordinary, picture of how God sometimes chooses to use people that are willing to accept the burden along with the blessing of a Spirit led life.I plan to read more of this author's work!

Ms. Healy Does It Again...!
A missing cop's wife...a recently-paroled criminal...a pastor's family turned upside-down by a scandal...such descriptors might have been lifted straight from our newspapers, but all of these facets of the human drama appear in perfect equilibrium in The Baker's Wife. As a son of a cancer survivor, I could relate to Julie(t) and her struggles, and the effects these life-changes make upon a family. The Scripture-twisting cop Jack and his legalistic overtones were so convincing that I spent half of my time reading this screaming at him. :) While I won't go as far as other critics at Amazon (and possibly elsewhere) criticizing Ms. Healy's characterization of Audrey's gift as "psychic" and "occultic," it was different, and an opportunity to think outside the box of Western Christendom that too many well-meaning Christ-followers have IMO unwisely hemmed themselves in. All in all, I give The Baker's Wife 4 out of 5 stars and wish her the best in all future endeavors (literary and otherwise).

A riveting intense story.
This book was not an easy ride. The intensity and the suspense was so extreme at times that I just had to have a small break. The characters were so well developed that I felt an immediate affinity. The quiet love of God that was so real in the baker, his wife and son was an integral foundation of the story. I will not soon forget The bakers Wife.

False Accusations and Ruined Lives
False accusations! lives ruined abound in this novel by Erin Healy. Healy's prose kept me on the edge of my seat and the many twists and turns kept me turning pages long past bedtime. Audrey's husband Geoff is the pastor of their local church until a self-important elder has him fired with false accusations. Because they always used bread baking to relax them, the couple opens a bakery in a building that formerly housed a drug store, home to Diane, a recently released ex-con. When Diane returns home to find an heirloom necklace, she meets Audrey, Geoff! and their son Ed. The elder is also a police detective who's wife is missing and presumed dead, a deed he suspects Audrey of. This is a great mystery and done I highly recommend.

This is a really good read
This book takes a good look at what can happen when judgemental people get in positions of power. It also shows what can happen when Godly people, who let the Lord work in their lives, to those who are down & out and what a difference God's love & restoration can make. It's not preachy or hyper religious. It has moments of suspense too. This is a very good read. People who read it will realize that the steps of the righteous are really ordered of the Lord, even when it seems like all hell is breaking loose.

Captivating
From the first page, my interest was piqued, and then it just kept getting better. I love the author's writing style, her use of adjectives and descriptions, which worked to immerse you in the storyline. The characters were well thought out and portrayed with a depth of understanding. The whole book flowed well, and I loved the way she weaved the story line that brought unexpected twists and turns. I am looking forward to reading more from Erin Healy.

Good suspense with predictable plot.
I liked the suspense although the plot was predictable. Interesting and scary what mental illness changes someone's perspective and beliefs about life.
