Gyokucho has never let me down.
I now have three Gyokucho saws, two for Dovetails and this one for larger cuts. All three have razor sharp teeth that hold their edge and provide clean cuts. I went with the 8-1/4" for the Ryoba because the longer ones can be cumbersome for my projects. If used correctly this saw will cut through hardwoods and softwoods like the proverbial knife through butter. If you've never used a Japanese saw I recommend watching some videos by Japan woodworker or others. The key difference other than cutting on the pull stroke is that you should be sawing in a downward motion. Great saw and I highly recommend it. I can't speak for other brands other than the cheap one from Harbor Freight which I own, and it is not even close to this one. I use the HF one for pruning trees instead.

Great tool
I bought this because my friend had one and he let me cut a bundle of old growth mahogany and it cut it like a hot knife through butter so I had to buy it. I was told with proper care it can make thousands of dovetails in hard wood and so far so good.
