The Child's Story Bible

Amazon should package books better
Amazon really damaged this one by putting in a large box and shipping it loose without padding. I was pretty upset, but thats no fault of the seller and the product. We read through the first story tonight and everyone love it. They are accurate, easy, enjoyable chapters for family reading time (ages 3, 4, & 15).

As a mom who has home schooled for 23 years, this gets my highest recommendation.
Catherine Vos took 20 years to paraphrase the Bible into this story form. Her love and reverence for her Maker breathes through every page. I tried many, many kinds of Bibles looking for one with some real depth to it that my children would love. This is it. For the first time, I'd finish a chapter and be begged, "One more chapter, mommy, please!" That's what I wanted; for Bible reading to be enjoyable, not something they would tolerate and grow up hating. We read the Bible through every year in one form or another. Often in short, rhyming paragraphs with full-page pictures for the toddler years (like The Hosanna Childrens' Bible), then Bible storybooks like 365 Bedtime Bible Stories, then about kindergarten we start reading this one (Child's Story Bible) out loud every year through about 5th grade. By Sixth grade they transition to the International Childrens' Version, which has every verse in the Bible in traditional format, but translated into about 3rd grade vocabulary level. Warning, it is very plainly spoken! At this level, they read it through on their own each year, until transitioning to the KJV in high school. By then they have a very good understanding of the stories and overall concepts in the whole Bible. This Child's Story Bible is a wonderful tool for the formative years. If you only get one children's Bible, this should be it. As a mom who has home schooled for 23 years, this gets my highest recommendation.

The Best Story Bible Available
My young children (ages 3,5, and 8) all enjoy this book, and I enjoy reading it to them. It has a theological depth to it that sparks wonderful questions and discussions, and it does a fantastic job of explaining things to make passages more clear. The story of the fall, for example, has an aside chapter that explains the fall of the satan and his angels that clarifies the story. These asides are throughout the story bible, and I have learned things that had never clicked for me before. The detail in this book is astounding. Several times my husband and I have read something out loud in this book and thought, " that wasn't in the Bible!" When we stop to look it up, sure enough, Vis had pulled up a detail that we just never noticed before. The author's respect for scripture and attention to detail shows throughout the book. Vis is also very talented when it comes to making my these stories dramatic and emotional. The stories are engaging, and even my 21st century kids beg for more every night. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

So well worded!
I bought this book to share the bible with my 6 year old and 3 year old. Both of them attend a child care that has a Christian influence and have been coming home talking about God and Jesus. My husband and I wanted to be a part of this learning and developmental process and so I picked this book to do it with. The vonacular is perfect for their age group and makes it really easy to talk to them about the stories in the bible. The only thing that has thrown me off is the harshness of the interpretation of how Adam and Eve's personalities changed after eatting the forbidden fruit and how their relationship with God changed. It's not bad, but a great opportunity to discuss what I was taught growing up and to hear what my kids think. This book has become a requested bed time story book.

Best story Bible for children, with a few disappointing bits.
This is hands down the best child's Bible I have come across and I've been searching for a long time. Even though it is a bit old for her yet, my 3 year old loves it and regularly asks for me to read to her from it.The best aspect of this Bible for me:The stories are all tied in together. As a child I knew plenty of 'Bible stories', ie, Daniel in the Lion's Den, Noah's Ark etc, but if you had asked me how any of them related to each other, I wouldn't have been able to join the dots or tell you why knowing the stories was important. In this book, I believe Catherine F. Vos is very committed to teaching children the WHOLE story of the Bible. The narrative voice that tells the stories is constantly tying the themes together, drawing the child's mind back to a previous story and setting the scene for the new one. I've actually been filling some holes in my own Bible education leftover from my childhood through her concisely related insights. The downside for me:Through the narration style, explanations are sometimes given for parts of Bible stories that I myself struggle to read to my children because I disagree with her interpretations. I know that people will often disagree on interpretation of scriptures, but I think there are many things that could have just gone unsaid. Here is an example from the story of creation."The Bible says, 'God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.' This does not mean that God picked up a handful of dirt and made a man out of it. It means that man's body is made out of the same material we find in soil and the rocks."Which is all well and good if you are teaching the 6 day creation story as a metaphor on the whole, but this book does not. It only picks on this one aspect of the creation story. I wish that in this case, as in a few others, the author had just quoted the Bible and left it there.Nonetheless, a very valuable addition to our household's library.

True to the Word
We love this story Bible. It is true to scripture and shares truth in such a way that young minds can understand. We love that it does not edit out Biblical language. It stays true to the word and convicts us even as parents while we read to our son.

The Childs Story Bible by Catherine Vos.
This book was not new which I was aware of but arrived in very good condition I was very very pleased with it, it came early, I would order again from this company , thank you very much. This book was for a 48 year old with Asperger's and was explained beautifully.

Unmatched Children's Bible
children love it, I read it aloud to them every night, its a perfect buy if you are looking for a Children's Bible. only drawback is barely any pictures, but the narration is simply brilliant it stands out by itself. if you have young children, this would work better as a read-out-aloud book by an adult due to lack of pictures..Worth the price of importing and accessing.. packaging by Amazon was excellent as usual.

Every family should have one.
This is very wonderful and an excellent book to read for Devotions with the family. It is biblically sound. As an adult I have really enjoyed it, for it isn't childish in its story form. All children under the age of 115 would enjoy it I believe. I have it on my Kindle. There aren't lots of pictures. Perhaps this would be great for new believers. With it being written in story form it is written to add understanding to the scriptures, which is excellent.
