I looked among a good number of sight mounts
I had my m1a scout squad in a troy mcs chassis with my Nikon m308 scope. But it made it to heavy for lugging around while deer hunting. So I decided to go with the significantly lighter original stock. I looked among a good number of sight mounts. I finally settled on the Springfield Armories gen 4 scope mount. It was designed by the makers of the rifle so no brainer there.Easily installed ( by my gunsmith , but hey, I watched) It was made from milled aluminum. Very sturdy but a little lighter and a lot cheaper than steel.I might have pony upped the double cost for steel if I was a competition shooter or I had a national match m1a. Plus it was one of the few mounts that allowed you to cowitness your excellent existing iron sights with optics. Many of the other sight mounts did not allow to use your existing iron sights. Which was huge for me. The only negative for me was the 2 huge screws on the side. I am very happy with my 1 moa m1a scout squad rifle. Possibly sub moa in a better shooters hands.

Great product!!
This Mount is a good, solid, and well machined product the fits perfect and adds extra options for optics as well as gives the weapon a more tactical appearance. I am by trade a machinist, so for me, mounting this was not too much of a headache. Things you MUST have, no exceptions for their absence makes installation near impossible as well as presents the opportunity to damage the weapon or the mount, are as follows: Rubber mallet, 3/32" pin punch, bench vice with brass jaws, ball-peen hammer, triangle file, gun oil, and patience. A micrometer or calipers can come in handy, but are not necessary. The kit comes with two new pins for different size alignment holes, be sure to use the right one. The instructions are provided and are relatively simple to follow, very descriptive, and are accompanied with pictures. I recommend this product for a serious shooter looking for a serious mount. Don't settle for anything less!!!

Solid mount with lighter weight aluminum frame
Searched the reviews and looked through many web pages and finally bought the Springfield 4th Generation Mount. Great price and quick delivery through Amazon.com The M1A is just under 10 pounds and every ounce saved with ad ons helps - so that's why I went with an aluminum scope mount. I try to stay with original manufacturer parts/accessories when I can - and I am glad I did with this scope mount for my Springfield M1A Loaded. Based on the other reviews and the need for some gun-smithing to mount it, I brought the scope mount to my gun store and they mounted it for free. (Nothing like a good relationship with a local/family owned gun shop.) I switch between two scopes on this mount - one is a red dot and the second is medium range mil dot depending on if I am varmint shooting or going on a hunting trip or want to practice at the range. Both mount with low lever rings. The red dot I mount to the front rail and when I use the medium range scope it goes on both. While you will need a cheek pad for the higher eye/scope position this mount requires, it is not as inconvenient to use or apply as noted in a prior review. Both scopes work great with this mount and so far its solid and tight on my M1A after multiple visits to the range, a few scope changes and one coyote. Plus it looks great on the M1A. There are cheaper and more expensive mounts aftermarket, but the SA MA4GENAM is rock solid on the M1A and that's what I wanted from an aluminum scope mount.

this actually works very well for more than just a novelty mounting solution.
Fits as designed and well made. The OG steel mount is obviously better for strength, but if weight, and cost is of concern this is an excellent and reliable option. This mount is no joke, it is strong and I've had the aluminum mounts in low end field service on other platforms for years with little to no issues loosing zero. The authentic Springfield mount whether aluminum or steel is the only way to go on these platforms. I've had customers bring me knockoff brands that "looked" ok in the box but were absolutely junk. For the general populous, proper gunsmithing tools and basic gunsmithing knowledge is highly recommended. Do not butcher removal and installation of the roll pin for the dove tail. Not all dovetails fit the same, some can be very tight and require careful fitment of the dovetail adapter to fit properly. Make sure you have service tools with you in the field to double check the mounting for the first 10 to 20 shots. Blue locktite (Dont use red!!) goes a long way on all threaded points. As with any complex adaptive mounting solutions for glass, always double check the mount securement and zero before setting off for a field adventure. Larger glass on these mounts exemplify this. (Weight + recoil = shock movement over time) IMO, If your considering heavy duty field service, you may want to the higher strength the steel mount. Again, Larger glass on these mounts exemplify this.

overall a good solid item. tools are needed to make it work. instruction are solid and easy to follow. the only thing i had to do was buying a set of punches.

A lot of people complain about this amount that it's cheap and it's not well-made, but that has not been my experience. I thought it well-made and it doesn't cause any problem with brass ejection at all, furthermore you can still use the sights to some degree, follow the instructions and install as directed and you will not have any problem.I've heard of people saying they had a wandering zero I can't imagine how that would happen after you shape it to your receiver. I ordered a second mount from Amazon on December 26/2017. Shipment lost, no mount and still no refund on March 23 2018. Do not purchase
