Great rod for the price
Extremely sensitive and super power rod, got 2 of them and I really love them. Most the time I fish for Striped Bass and never had a problem with those rods it all!

Thumbnail Pictures are misleading.
This is a very long rod. I was mentaly prepared for a two piece rod in equal 6ft length sections.I think it is important to note that this rod (12ft model) comes in a 4ft long rear and 8 foot long piece.Yes you heard that right, the SHORTEST this rod can be is 8 FEET when broken down, which is a pain because it cannot lay flat on my trucks flatbed and needs to be mounted on a rack. This is just a first impression, ill be keeping the rod but am somewhat disappointed.

Good value - capable heavy surf fishing rod
Purchased for the heavy rating to handle large drum and striped bass. Lite for its size and casts very well. Easily handled 40 inch+ fish. Good value for the money - purchased another one as was impressed by my experience with the 1st rod I purchased

2 times delivered broken
I don't know if it's Okuma and their packaging or mistreatment by delivery but I ordered this and it was delivered with the bottom and middle guides bent against the pole.I ordered a replacement and it was delivered with the bottom guide shattered.Amazon clearly does not understand what careful handling means.I am sure it's a great pole. It looks and feels great.I will not be ordering a 3rd time

Just received
I just received the rod after waiting a week. I was all excited about using it this weekend and upon opening the box the rod tip was broken. I hope the replacement comes quickly. I’ll update laterAfter finding Okuma about 10 years ago I’m slowly switching over. I can’t complain about the equipment at all. For the price they are excellent..I have currently purchased 3 Okuma rockway rods and reels for surf fish in Florida and love them!!!!!

The New Solaris SSX Is a Step Above The Original In Features!
I'm into surf casting for big fish out in the Pacific. The original 12ft H Solaris had a 50/50 split configuration while the 12ft H SSX is a 70/30 split configuration as seen in the Rockaway HD version over the regular Rockaway Surf Rods. This means it's easier to load-up a heavier casting load & the longer 70% fore section will give a bit more boosting power over the older 50/50 split configuration. Yes, still incorporates that tough cork grip & it's still a heavy rod as the original. Be aware that the traveling length of the new SSX together is now longer than the previous 50/50 original. That means your lure weight is now up to 16oz over the 8oz of the original. This is for big powerful fish! Jacks to Sharks & Rays to Catfishing. Even my full size Honda SUV will barely hold this new length. You still can roll a window down or strap it down. Be aware of the traveling length before purchasing. Same issues as the new 12' Rockaway HD's as they're 70/30 split as well. If you're targeting big fish it's worth it. For myself this type of rod requires a minimum casting weight of 6-8oz lead banks for rocky terrain. For sandy/muddy areas i'd use 10/12oz lead pyramids or wired banks. Also get a sensitive bell. If a smaller fish strikes the rod is stiff & heavy & you may not notice you have a fish on. Be sure you understand all this before committing to get any 70/30 split configuration surf rod that Okuma has recently put out. I'm sharing this Easter Egg with you as i already gone through this. Also a thick sand spike (metal) is needed, not pvc.
