Cyborg is probably my favorite movie with Van Damme. It has a look and feel that is unlike any other. Van Damme plays Gibson, a gunslinger, who is one of the most badass heroes you'll ever see in a movie. He's up against Fender (Vincent Klyn), who is his total opposite, one of the most wicked cool villains you'll ever see. He runs with a menacing posse (the Flesh Pirates) who are perfect for a villain of his caliber.From the very beginning you get a look at just how fierce the gang of pirates are as they chase after Pearl, a cyborg who carries data for a cure to the plague, and her armed escort, Marshall. The mood is set when one of them jumps through the glass in an awesome scene to intercept Marshall. From there, a battle ensues and as more pirates catch up, Marshall's fate is sealed.The plot is that a cyborg has potential data to cure a plague that's ravaging the world. She needs to get back to the lab in Atlanta, but dangers lurk in every corner and a band of pirates want to own the cure for themselves. Van Damme plays a reluctant hero who is not as concerned about the cure as he is on taking revenge for the death of his family.The sets are well done for the budget. I think they capture the post-apocalyptic world very well. There's rubble everywhere. Bridges are crumbling and collapsed. Vehicles are rusted and abandoned. Vegetation is consuming. Buildings that have been constructed look shabby at best. Concrete buildings, or complexes still standing look deserted and there's graffiti on almost everything. The whole look is plausible for a post-apocalyptic world.I think the costumes are well done also. Fender is dressed to look like a king, and a king of death he is. The pirates are dressed in various ways and each looks original. They have their own personality and each one looks cool. The costumes seem like a cross between modern times and the dark ages. Another thing I like about the costumes is that nobody looks too clean. There's a lot of dirt and sweat on the garb that adds to the believability, people have bad teeth, etc.As far as acting and dialog I have heard a lot of negative things reading the various reviews of this movie. First off, I think the acting is just fine. Van Damme doesn't say much, but I think he really captures the kind of cold, numb look his character must feel with his past and living in a world in disarray. In the scene where Gibson is hanging on the ship's mast you really get a sense of the anguish he feels and Van Damme did a superb job of acting in that scene. During the fights, Van Damme puts on his war face and you really feel like he's in the battle. Even Fender's pirates, who say next to nothing, have a look on their faces that gives the impression that they are all of one mind. You don't see them looking around at each other for assurance, or looking at their leader for direction, because they already know what they're doing. That's one of the main reasons I think they make such a great evil posse, one of the best in any movie.As far as the action, the fights in this movie are epic. Like other people have said, you get a sense that Gibson is human--he can be hit, cut, knocked down--but he's a seasoned gunslinger and has many tricks up his sleeve. There are several great fight scenes in this movie that aren't your typical bar fight, or some martial arts star taking on a pack of ninjas. The fights are interesting and dynamic. The personalities of the various pirates make the fights all the more fun to watch. In some scenes you get the impression that the bad guys are not just beaten, but doomed. I think that's what sets Cyborg apart from other martial arts movies. They seem to just go through the motions, but Cyborg has substance and personality. In some cases, the moves seem to be executed too slowly, or not quite believable, but the substance makes up for that.I think the only bad thing I have to say about the movie is that the flashbacks really slow down the pace. Like someone said, you see them all twice. The second time around there's a little more to them, but they are the most boring part of the movie.Overall, I think this is a great movie. I've liked it ever since I was a kid and when I recently bought it again I wasn't disappointed. Still seems as cool to me now as when I watched it then. If you're a fan of the movie I highly recommend reading the one star reviews. You will have a pretty good laugh. Although I don't agree with what most of them said, I couldn't vote any of them down just because they were so funny. That said, some of them didn't even understand what was happening. They botched the story, thinking Fender and his pirates were cyborgs, or that Gibson's main motive was to help Pearl get to Atlanta instead of killing Fender. One person didn't know why there was a boat or who was on the boat, something easily explained if you actually watch the movie. Anyway, if you want dialog, watch Sex and the City. If you want a cool story, with badass pirates and tons of ass whoopings, watch Cyborg. It's a great movie.

Finally, a company like Shout decides to release an amazing collector's edition of this true cult classic.The transfer on this blu ray truly does look stunning.It took me a minute to process just how good the movie actually looked.I'm so used to VHS, standard cable television broadcasts and subpar DVD transfers.This new blu showcases just how amazing the photography in the film actually is.Very evocative depth, with its brazen, apocalyptic browns and tans, to its rich and bright contrasts of brilliant oranges and deep blues.This is the first transfer that has actually been worthy of the amazing production Albert Pyun and company were able to pull together with little to no money and very little time.Cyborg was famously cobbled together with sets, costumes, and props from abandoned productions of Masters of the Universe 2 and a Spider-Man movie Cannon films were slated to make.Financing fell through, some licensing issues arose and bam.Cannon Films were caught between a rock and...another rock.So instead of wasting away all that time, money and effort that was already allotted for the previous productions, Cannon hired Albert Pyun to throw together a script that utilized some of the same themes and atmosphere, but something that turned out to be completely different.Cyborg was born of their previous failings and I have to say, 30 years later and this movie still holds up, at least to this viewer.It's actually better than it ever has been before.I seen things I've never even noticed before, after 60+ viewings.All because of the aspect ratio and clarity that is presented here.The soundtrack sounds great too!Very nice sound mix on this one.I also heard things in there that I never noticed before.I was just completely immersed with the amazing picture and sound.Watching on a large screen with surround sound was the most enjoyable viewing of this movie I've ever had.It was exciting!And bonus features!I've gotta say, this include a bit more than I initially expected when Shout announced they were releasing this title.There's a descent-sized "making of" documentary that clocks in at 30 mins, with interviews with director Albert Pyun, Deborah Richter, Vincent Klyn (super chill, all around rad guy) and various crew, including the cinematographer (again, AMAZING photography in this movie!) and the set designer.All very interesting with their amount of enthusiasm and input.Also includes a quick featurette with the company that did the special/visual effects, who subsequently had just finished up on James Cameron's The Terminator prior to hopping on to Cyborg.Sadly, there is no "Director's Cut" version available on this new release, though I never personally expected it to be included.There is only a VERY ROUGH workprint cut of the movie on VHS tape and there's no actual film elements to be able to get a descent transfer off of.This is indeed sad, I know, but you can always do what I did and hunt down the Misery Edition DVD or Blu Ray to see that version.Also includes newly commissioned artwork exclusive to this release, a slipcover (for the first 3 months only) and the Shout/Scream Factory staple; reversible sleeve with original cover art on the reverse side.Packaging and actual disc looks great.If you are a Cyborg fan, you NEED this new release.The transfer alone is worth the money.And as of right now while I'm writing this, it is DIRT cheap on Amazon.I'm even more excited about it because of the great deal I got it for.So snag it up while it's at an amazing price with the slipcover!

Great movie. Horrific,vulgar fairly realistic scenes.(some cheesy not so realistic scenes as well)For some years I couldn't re watch Cyborg.due to the sheer violence. I recently got back into it. Pure nostalgia for me.The special features & the high quality transfer both picture and audio: made it worth the purchase.I learned quite a few unknown facts from the extras menu. I also like the insert/cover art with the original cover case or the option to turn-it-over to view a new option of the cover art.I almost want to purchase "Slinger" which is apparently slightly different version of Cyborg.Overall I am satisfied with my purchase. Seller is reliable too. Fast shipping to boot.

In this package you get two versions here. The Slinger cut aka the Director cut and Cyborg that we all know. I watched Cyborg first as it had been a while. Then I watched Slinger a few days later. It's good to see extra footage inserted into the Slinger movie. But it's like standard VHS quality mixed with HD Blu-ray quality. That doesn't bother me but it will some viewers. You get used to it as the movie progresses. Guess it's the only quality available and it's better to see it in bootleg style VHS quality than never see it at all.The music in Slinger is completely different to Cyborg. It feels out of place. It's good, it is good. But it doesn't create a sense of dread like Cyborg's main theme does. It suits the apocalypse setting. Slinger's audio doesn't always match what's going on onscreen. Like at the factor when Fender and his gang gets attacked by Van Damme. JC's gun runs out of ammo and he says the F-word. But in Slinger you see his mouth move to say it. But it's silent and instead the alternate audio / music score plays over the top of it. You get this a lot. It's like they've replaced the movies audio with the original audio track. You hear it when Fender talks. His voice is different a little. And JC when he gives off battle roars it sounds different also.I prefer the Slinger cut in terms of storytelling. It makes more sense to some scenes. But the soundtrack/music IMO is superior in the Cyborg version. It's darker and more dread-filled. Either way it's looked at as a whole this is a very good deal. I had to buy it from a seller in Madrid. As Slinger isn't available here only Cyborg is. Both versions play in English on UK machines. You just might need to turn the Spanish subtitles off is all.

Ce film montre des scènes inédites, qui sont coupées dans la version commercialisée. Très bon film mais je pense qu'il s'oriente principalement à des fans de ce film, à ceux qui désirent voir les scènes coupées. Les personnes qui n'ont jamais vu ce film, je leur conseille de regarder la version classique avant. En ce qui concerne la livraison et l'état du colis, il n'y a rien à dire. Très bon vendeur.
