Let me begin by saying I'm not a bassist; in fact, I'm not even a great guitarist, but rather an enthusiast who likes to experiment in his home studio. That being said, I purchased this for myself so I could lay down some rudimentary bass lines to glue together some song ideas ahead of someone else doing the real work, so take my comments in that context.I have to say, I LOVE this bass! As an owner of 3 other guitars, I CAN recognize good build quality and this certainly exemplifies that. There isn't a single blemish on this thing--it's shiny, slick and pretty. It's also SOLID, but not overly heavy. I'd guess it weighs about 7 or 8 freedom units (pounds) and its center of gravity is probably about the fourth fret from the end of the neck, so there's an ever so slight tendency for neck dive, but that's without the friction of a strap, just me holding it against my stomach and playing (yes, there is a carved comfort scoop).As it arrived, it was ALMOST in tune; the strings feel nice, well-coated so they're smooth with no biting. The tuners seem to work and one thing that actually surprised me is that it appears to have a bone nut--it's gritty, off-white and carved perfectly for each different string girth. The tuners are simple, but effective. At the other end, the bridge and saddles seem solid enough, though I'm not an expert, so I included a close-up picture for you to decide. The action is ever so slightly high due to my fingers being a just a bit shorter than average, but that's easily remedied. I included a pic of that, too, for your own reference.The knobs for the pots offer a pleasant resistance--just enough to feel substantial. The knobs themselves are straight and are installed securely. The pickups seem to be seated adequately and overall; this thing feels solid and pleasant to hold, which is important--especially if you're going to be using this for more than a couple of minutes.As for the playing, I like the classic P-Bass tone that this Donner provides; I ran this through my DAW and everything sounds good. Like I said, I'm not a professional bassist, but I was more than pleased with the sound I got. The strings stayed in tune and I had a great time. I'm not the next Michael Anthony or anything, but based on my experience as an incredibly mediocre guitarist, I'd say anyone else could probably get even more out of it.I will admit to one thing being a slight demerit in the evaluation of this bass: there is a tiny (I mean almost imperceptible, but not quite) bit of fret sprout on about three of the frets, something that is easily addressed by anyone with a luthier's kit--which, as the owner of 4 guitars now, I happen to possess. Fixing those frets will require about 5 minutes of work.The bundle includes a NICE, padded gig bag, a strap, a cable (which is surprisingly thick and deluxe-feeling) and an Allen wrench. The bass alone would have been a solid value, but with the added bundle, this is a home run for anyone who's a beginning/sometime/pro bassist (in need of an inexpensive backup). There are virtually no flaws and for the price, the potential downside is almost non-existent.

This inexpensive guitar is one of the best I’ve played. Lightweight and well finished it plays like a dream. Action is great, sound is great, and the active pickups give lots of tonal options. I would not hesitate to give this guitar to beginners or not so beginners. I’ve been playing since the 60’s and have no thoughts of an unnecessary upgrade, this boy does the job and very well!

It's my first bass, and it seems and sounds great to me. I've played guitar for a few years and just wanted to try bass too, so I wanted an inexpensive one. This one fits the bill perfectly. Not even sure what I'd gain from a more expensive bass.

Everything worked great, had no damage when it arrived though there were random smudges and the plastic covering the knobs was very difficult to take off. needed a little adjustment as the action was pretty sloppy but my teacher who’s been in music for 40+ years says the quality for the price is awesome. would definitely recommend to anyone interested in bass.

Love this bass. Frets are smooth, keep in tune, plays very well. I did adjust the string action and truss rod, but that’s to be expected of a new guitar, especially at this price point. Overall I would definitely recommend.

I bought this bass for my brother as a birthday gift since he wanted to start playing as a new hobby. I played it for a few days before giving to him, and I was actually very impressed. To my surprise, the action was set spot on, the neck was straight and it played great. I checked the neck with a straight edge and was surprised there was no bow at all. No issues with the pick ups, they sounded and operated great, pretty much what I was expecting, if not better. The tuners seemed solid and well made. It was wrapped up good during shipping and had a lot of padding on it. I would easily compare this to a fender squire beginner bass. I like how this comes with the case, cable and strap. The only minor issue I noticed was the frets weren't perfectly flush with the neck, but that makes no impact to the sound, you can just slightly feel them as you slide your hand up and down the neck. Theres a ton of videos online that show how to sand them down in a matter of seconds using a sanding pad, but regardless, I don't think a beginner would mind or notice that at all. All in all, I think this is a great guitar and definitely a great bargain. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to start playing bass. I'm a guitar player, I own one bass for recording, and I'm considering getting one of these for myself because I like it more than my current bass which was $400... Good instrument. The action adjustment was perfect out of the box, no need to mess with the trussrod. Neck and frets are also good. PU sound is okay. The strings don't match the overall quality which is normal in this price range. The gigbag is okay for dust protection, not for transport.

Purchased Bass as I am guitarist but fancied a go on 4 strings. Firstly I generally check reviews before purchasing and seeing a few positive reviews on YouTube I thought I would give this brand a try and I am quite shocked at how well this bass plays plus the extras you get. Firstly the bass is a nice weight not too heavy but not too light. Body has a deep sunburst finish which has been applied well. Maple neck with a wood similar to rosewood used for the fret board. Frets have been well dressed no buzzing or dead spots and fret ends have been nicely rounded off. Action was a little high but after lowering to my taste I had a play. I was impressed with the nice punchy tone this bass produces and how well it plays. The tone knob rolls off treble evenly which is nice to hear, usually on budget guitars you only have to touch the tone and the treble is gone in an instant. Nice quality gig bag which feels sturdy enough to protect the bass out and about and a decent jack lead and strap as well. I would honestly say I would be happy to gig with this bass. I would highly recommend this for a beginner or intermediate player really exceptional value and with a bit of a set up plays as good as any bass costing treble what this cost.

The media could not be loaded. Summary: It’s worth it but only if you’re willing to invest time/money into a good setup and strings. This sounds better than anything below an American Fender. I also found the neck to feel broken in from the get go. The neck is pretty chunky though, it feels very similar to my Sterling Ray5 and I really dig that. It’s a great neck profile, for me. I also think style-wise the gold logo and engraved neck plate are pretty nice.The trade off is if it’s like mine it will absolutely need a fret filing, and while the stock setup is actually passable, and pretty good with a slight truss rod tightening it could use a proper one. That said for the price of an Affinity Squier (which is just the bass, no accessories) you can get this Donner, which comes with a strap, gig bag, and cable then have it professionally set up with a good set of strings.That is a way better option for a beginner or someone just wanting a bass laying around.If you’re looking for a project bass, move along.Quality: Is a mixed bag. My bathroom scale says this weighs 9.8lbs which for me is heavy but manageable. The body's finish is absolutely flawless but my neck has a tiny nick and the headstock looks like it got smacked or smacked something at the factory. The electronics are great, the pots feel very smooth and work well.Mods: New strings, strap locks, knobs, and fret inlay stickers are about as far as I got. The pickups, bridge, possibly neck, likely tuners, and pickguard are all different from Fender/Squier sizing. So changing anything means you could be changing quite a few things. I really wanted to throw my tort pickguard on here as I love black/tort/rosewood but it won’t even fit over the pickups, forget the fact that it’d need all new holes drilled for the screws and the electronics need to be specifically positioned to fit. Fortunately I didn’t buy this as a mod bass but as a backup and travel bass.Sound: Is massive and incredible. I would say it’s very much aimed at the bedroom bassist as it naturally dips in the mids but by digging in with a pick you can create this growly and aggressive tone with a HUGE bottom end. Donner really took the bass part of bass guitar seriously here. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a split single sound so big.Playability: If you like a 59 style P bass this is a great and playable choice for you. It did scratch my hands up pretty bad before I filed the fret ends but I really enjoyed getting to learn and use a new skill and because this is such a cheap bass there was no worry about damaging the fretboard (which for the record I didn’t at all). Now that the frets are nice and smooth it plays like butter and feels like home. I own 2 other P basses and a Stingray, 2 of those are 5 strings, so I like and am used to bigger necks and P basses. If you’re into a smaller neck, or you need a bass to be lightweight this isn’t for you.Accessories: Are totally usable. None of them are special but you do get a standard gig bag in terms of padding, quality, and pockets, the cable is actually a quality, thick cable with metal ends unlike some of the cheap, useless cables you sometimes get with starter instruments, and the strap while not particularly high quality is comfy and would have no problem lasting a long time if strap locks are used. All of this is light years ahead of the garbage that came with my first Squier Bullet guitar (that I still own and love but the accessories were all trash) 16 years ago, and it cost the same if you factor out the amp.Conclusion: I feel like this is a great bass, but it needs a tiny bit of love to get it there. Still if you’re really into that classic P bass feel and a tone that could knock over a building given enough amplification this is an incredible option for a mass-produced bass. We’re long past the days of country of origin mattering for stuff coming off the production line, and while spending more does get you some nicer fretwork and more pickup options, and is basically required if you want a project bass there’s always going to be trade-offs (namely in stock sound and accessories). For me this hit a real sweet spot and fits nicely into a really tight budget.
