IRWINTools IRWIN Step Drill Bit Set, 3-Piece (10502CB)

Was going to buy these for just one job but ended up finding multiple applications for these. Great product and can tear through just about anything

I'm doing a fiberglass car project, and these things leave much nicer edges than my normal pilot point bit sets. And even on un-masked gelcoat, this leaves minimal cracking. (Though I'd still recommend using masking tape, and cutting in towards the gelcoat).I like the right-most one, which has long steps -- it helps get nice straight holes, even through a fairly thick piece of fiberglass. The only minor thing is that I wish that there was more variety in sizes. The bigger one is, if I recall correctly, 3/4" at the largest. If the set had a narrow, medium, large one, it would be slightly more versatile, than the current set which has 2 narrow ones, and a medium one.

Great for steel. I wasted a nice chunk of money on other step bits, including Milwaukee impact ready, HF "titanium", Klein black oxide, etc. I use these to drill steel up to 3/16" thick. They cut quickly in a hand drill with minimal oil (horizontal position) and, so far, do it without dulling. I wish I had bought these first.

The IRWIN step drill bit set is good quality and the reason I give it only 4 stars is because one of the step drill bit shaft was bent from the factory with a wobble, I expected better quality from ERWIN, I would still recommend, but check the quality first for any possible defects.

Arrived today didn't use yet but seem like nice bits, only thing is they came in a cloth zipper bag with black foam inside to hold them in place, not a big deal just not the metal case in the picture, I get a little frustrated when I get something other than what I'm shown.

The quality I expected from Irwin. I was able to drill up to the 1 and 3/8th of an inch, definitely can go beyond. I only needed this to complete a customers request. I suggest using a good cutting oil to protect your investment. I was cutting though 1/8 inch mild steel. I have found that when it comes to a mechanics need for good bits, Irwin has never let me down.

A little dull, but works well for the most part. I wish the larger unibit came to a point, it’s a little bit of a pain constantly changing them out to start the hole then, again to make the whole bigger.
