Sizing guesswork? Yeah, me too... But at 5;5"/135lbs - here's what I got and why!
First - this is my first pair of "real" bike shorts with padding, and I absolutely love them!! For most of my rides I'm fine without, but I find that with hillwork or trying out singletrack riding the shorts are definitely the way to go! So there's that...As for the padding - I saw a couple of people say they felt like diapers. Not my experience at all. It was barely noticeable. Now that said - I'm guessing it depends on your build. I am 5'5", 135 lbs, and pretty "athletic" in frame. I have a straight bust to hip line, meaning I am not super curvy in the waist. I have a fairly flat rear, and at 50 years old I am very fit but have definitely lost some of my natural padding. Again - the padded shorts are a big help for sure. I love them, and am buying another pair right now!Ok... now on the whole sizing issue. I had a really hard time discerning sizing from the chart and the wide variety of sizing reviews. Again, I'm petitish, fitish, and compact. My normal pant size is a 6, small, but that can vary depending on the style and maker. After MUCH reading, reading, and re-reading I went with the medium. The medium shorts are just fine. They are not tight, and also not loose. They fit against my skin with no slippage or bunching and were comfortable during the ride.I do think I could have gone with a small if looking for slightly more compression fit, but I'm sticking with the medium on the 2nd pair as well. My "size" does fluctuate across the month, so I don't want to have days where these pinch or bind.Again, you need to read the reviews carefully, but also consider your shape and your fit preference. I do not like tight clothing. I do not like to feel anything I am wearing! ha! So at 5'5", compact body with a fit/athletic build (I do yoga 1-2 x week, ride 3-7 miles 2-3 x week, and walk about 2 miles a week), 50 years (meaning there is natural gravity effect!), straight build without much waist indentation and moderate hips/rear.... I got a Medium and am getting a second pair in this size.

The most helpful review you'll read
Tried on a pair of name brand IQ shorts at the store. They were $80 and "ok" in terms of comfort. So I passed and my boyfriend (advid mtb-er) said to look online as this will be my FIRST time biking.Fast forward; I found these. The size I tried on at the store (in the I brand) was a large.I read ALL of the reviews for these and some said they run so small. Others said fit great. So I took a chance and ordered the size I tried on. Large.I am 5'5 and 155lbs. I have a 34" waist and larger thighs (the thing every girl hates) these shorts are FANTASTIC! they fit perfectly. Just snug enough to stay on and be slimming enough to fit UNDER a pair of leggings (pictured) but they don't cut off circulation in my thighs AND they don't roll up from my thighs being "bigger" than my waist. The padding is just right (from what I can tell. Haven't used them on a bike yet) and again, doesn't look obviously bulky under yoga pants/leggings.

Very good, even for a fat girl!
Love these shorts. Fit great. I’m 235lbs and love how high these come up on my waist. The legs stay in place and the shorts are overall invisible under a pair of capris. Decent padding. Doesn’t feel too much like a diaper but has enough to keep me comfortable. I would recommend these

Do Not Size Up!
I bought these for my first long distance ride - 22 miles. I needed comfort and padding for the distance AND the hills! I listened to the other reviewers (I shouldn’t have) and sized up to a size Medium instead of my usual size Small. I am 5’4 and 125lbs. I wear a size 4 shorts/jeans. Cycle shorts are supposed to be fitted and snug. If you size up like I did, it defeats the purpose of the foam padding. If they’re too big, your padding is not positioned as it should be. Bummer! I did okay on my ride but from now on, I’m sticking with my normal size.

Good for beginner riders.
Good for beginner riders who sit upright with up right handlebars. The padding of these shorts is more at the rear end, making it good for those who sit upright. The padding is much lighter in the middle and toward the front, and the pants are not so good for bikers who have drop down handlebars and who lean forward and who are series bikers..

I’m 5’8” and 265 lbs and 3x worked great
I was also confused about sizing. Searching for plus size bike shorts was a bit of a nightmare. Seeing other brands claim a size 12 was plus was very disappointing. I ordered 3 different pairs of bike shorts and these were by far my favorite.I’m 5’8” and 265 pounds. I’ve recently slimmed down, so my pants size is a guess based on a size chart. Apparently I’m a 20 hip and a 22 waist. I ordered a 3x and I’m really happy with it!The other shorts I tried had much smaller chamois pads. This was the only pair that felt like it gave plenty of coverage for all my goods.I’ve only gotten back into biking for the past couple weeks, but wearing these shorts is a MASSIVE difference than just wearing the shorts I’d wear for any other work out. I put a cruiser seat on my mountain bike years ago but I’ve always had issues with a sore tush. I didn’t realize that padded bike shorts were the missing piece of the puzzle. I’m really glad I asked a cyclist friend for advice! These kinda fit me like spanx. I usually wear gym shorts over them. The gym shorts I have are a bit shorter, so I’ve got a little black peekaboo under. Also, I bought the black pair and I think I could wear them as standalone shorts. There wasn’t anything too see thru or any dramatic moose knuckle.I’ve been caring for them w/my cyclist friend’s advice- hand wash with a dime size dollop of detergent, then let them hang dry. It’s become my pre-shower routine.Hopefully this review will help other confused plus size ladies in need!

The padding is nice and thick
I am 5'9" and a size 12. I got the xl and they fit very well. They are a little snug at the bottom. However, they stay in place and don't ride up while biking. The padding is nice and thick. Great for a long ride. I will probably purchase them in another color. Overall good quality for a good price.

Padding very large and wide
I am about 5'3", 40.5" hip, 34" waist, 23" thigh. Pant/jean size normally a size 12 with 30" inseam. Sit bone width is about 13.5-14cm. Ordered 3XL initially using the Beroy sizing chart from their website ( 3XL is hip 37-42"/waist is 30-34"). Found them to fit ok but padding very large, especially in the back (like a big diaper). Ordered the 2XL (hip is 35-40"/waist is 28-32") for comparison. A little snugger fit, but same size padding as the 3XL. Not too bad for cycling, but not long distances. Ordered from a different brand in the 2XL size. Tighter fit in thighs and hips and waist than the Beroy, but much better smaller padding. I have attached a pic for comparison. Able to ride in the other brand with very little pressure point issues. Beroy shorts I have to limit to about a 20-25km ride (about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes - mountain bike on an indoor bike trainer). Other brand I did 38km uphill yesterday (2 hours and 50 minutes). I guess body dimensions and shape will determine if Beroy shorts are better or not for any one individual - I bought based on volume of positive reviews - but I would order the other brand because the padding is so much better for my sit anatomy for $10 more. I can get used to a snugger fit in the thighs, etc. A perfect combo would be the other brand padding with the Beroy shorts for fit!

Not for those with low self-esteem
I bought a pair of these shorts and yes, they are probably a size too small, but I'm on my way to losing weight. However, my muffin top and Kardashian ass aside, the pattern of the mesh is not very flattering at all if you have larger thighs. It basically creates a circle around your... lady bits. It makes you look wider than you are. Now, looks aside, these shorts so far are a good deal. The material breathes well, the gel along the leg keeps them from riding up and the chamoise is decent for light to moderate riding. To replace some more expensive pairs of cycling shorts I've worn out, I am very happy with them. I even bought another pair. That should tell you something.

Pleased with improved comfort
Fit: Based on other reviews I ordered the extra large. I am 5ft 2 (and a half!) and weigh 140 lbs, I have pretty straight thighs but some 'tummy weight'. These fitted me really well, not tight, the legs are a great length and don't rise up as I cycle (indoor rides 1 hr typically). The padding seems reasonable, I ride forward and it doesn't seem to bunch up or cause any irritation, its about right for me, any thicker and it would be too much. Pretty happy with these, I would purchase again.

Works for the price.
Got the size based on size chart. Possibly could have gone down a size, I am at the in between could go either way. Went for a 36km bike ride, the padding helped. Good value for the money, given bike shorts in stores cost a lot more. Would buy again.
