I was skeptical, but please, stop browsing and buy this if you want a Bonsai Tree.
Let me tell you, this "REALPETALED" brand Bonsai Starter Kit is the real deal. As someone who has killed more plants than I care to admit, I was skeptical about the whole bonsai thing, especially after how negative of an experience my only prior attempt at bonsai was. But this kit exceeded all my expectations. First of all, the kit is high quality from top to bottom. The soil is rich and nutrient-dense, the pots are sturdy and well-made, and the little bonsai tools are adorable (and surprisingly effective). It's like having your own personal bonsai nursery right in your home. But the real magic happened when I planted the seeds, followed the extremely comprehensive and well-written guidebook's first few pages, and waited. And let me tell you, I didn't have to wait long. Within only a week and a half, I was already seeing a beautiful sprout breaking through the soil (see my attached photo). I was like a proud parent watching my little bonsai baby grow. And can we talk about the seven different bonsai tree seeds that are included in the kit? It's like a little bonsai forest in a box. And the best part? They actually grow! Unlike the low-quality bonsai kit I bought in the past that never worked (seriously, I don't want to talk about that one), this one actually produced a real, live, beautiful bonsai tree, and this is only one out of seven with a generous amount of seeds to spare! In short, this particular Bonsai Starter Kit is a fantastic choice for anyone who wants to try their hand at bonsai growing. It's easy to use, high quality, and actually produces results. Plus, it's just plain fun to watch your little trees grow and flourish as you notice little developments each day. And let's not forget the surprise of seeing just how fast a beautiful sprout breaks through the soil. It's like nature's little joke - you think you have to wait weeks before something substantial will happen, but then BAM! Nearly instant gratification in only a few days. So go ahead, and give it a try. If you want to get into bonsai as a beginner, stop browsing, and buy this product. Final Rating: 10.0/10.0

Great for beginners
I have been wanting to grow a bonsai tree for years. I tried a few years ago and wasn't successful. These seeds are great. I was able to grow seeds immediately after planting them (after the 24H soak period). I haven't tried all of the seeds yet as I'm running out of space in my home. However, I do believe this was a worthwhile purchase for beginners. Instructions are easy to follow as well. I will say that the purple wisteria seeds didn't go so well the first go around. I'm waiting to see if this second round will produce anything. I wish there were more purple wisteria seeds. My kit brought about 5-7 seeds. The 24H soak on those seeds caused the seed to rot and get all mushy. Any advice on growing a purple wisteria bonsai would be very much appreciated. Some of the seeds are very difficult to hold for light scratching of the casing surface. Other than that, I'm looking forward to seeing what I've planted grow. Some of these plants grow very quickly. I recommend spraying water on the soil when watering versus soaking the soil as it is very easy to overwater plants. Best of luck! Update (11/18/23): still no luck with growing the wisteria. The seeds keep spoiling, even when planted in dry soil and watered regularly. I’m not sure how to proceed. This is one of the bonsais I was most looking forward to growing and am sad it’s not working out. 😕 would love any tips and/or tricks. I’ve read articles online to no avail.

Great value, but could be better
As a beginner to bonsai, this kit is very appealing. The variety of seeds is spot on for what a lot of people gravitate toward for flashy bonsai trees. The only reason I didn't rate this kit as a full 5 stars is because it's targeted toward beginners like myself, but growing from seed, I've now learned, is a scary thing and doesn't guarantee success. The seeds are delicate, and while the kit comes with instructions, they were fairly vague as to the treatment of the seeds. I destroyed the first few seeds attempting to follow the instructions of "remove the outer shell" only to realize that the intention isn't to remove the ENTIRE shell. Totally my bad, but could happen to anyone who is excited to just get started. Luckily, they do warn you to save seeds in case of accidents or just bad seeds that don't germinate, so I still have extras to try again. I do appreciate that the kit comes with plenty of soil and the different pots per plant including little signs to keep them organized. The instruction booklet is filled with other instructions to help after the seeds start to grow. For more advanced green thumbs, it is a solid kit, but I only suggest that beginners carefully do their research before getting started, even with a kit :)

Great value, grew a bunch of little bonsais
Great little kit. Excellent value. I had so many bonsais grow that I ended up buying more of the plastic pots and potting soil, and just those alone came to $27. So, $30 for this whole kit is a great deal. After reading the instructions I decided to buy a germination kit, which was about $90. I think really though if you had a window to put the pots in front of you would probably just want to get at least a heating pad, which is like $20. But ended up with 16 bonsais that seem to be doing well after just 2 weeks. Some of them were sprouting after 2 days. Planted 6 of the 7 different types. Had success with 4 of the 6. 1 type almost looked like it was just dirt, I tried putting it in some of the cells any way after soaking in water and nothing happened. The purple wisteria ones were weird in the water, some white stuff came out. And in the soil they look like they're just molding or something, not sure. Will give them a little more time, might do a little more research into them and try again. And the Japanese Maples require cold stratifying, going to try those next. But all others got quite a few out of! Only one thing I thought would be helpful is some additional info beyond growing the seeds, even just recommending some books or online resources. There's nothing for like growing them beyond this point. Although, that's pretty complex, so I understand. I bought a couple of bonsai books to help guide in growing them past this point. Not sure if this would make a great gift. It's kind of a commitment and a bit of work. But great for starting a new hobby, I think.

Good but bad germination rate
Has everything needed and instructions, but VERY low germination rate. As someone who is experienced in starting plants from seed, it’s very disappointing since it’s designed for beginners.

Very, poor, overall germination.
I planted 5 of the 6 seeds varieties & followed instructions, 3 planted twice now. Only got germination from Sophora japonica, which was good 5 of 6 seeds. Everything else has been a dud, even after multiple attempts. Not even including the Japanese maple, which you have to store the seeds in the fridge for a couple months before even planting (I'm not very confident they will germinate given the other seed quality so far). Buyer beware, while it seems like a great kit, I have little to show (~ 1 month in) except disappointment and moldy soil mix!!! Update @ 2 months. The one variety (S. japonica) I did manage to get germinated is doing great, I transplanted 2 into larger pots and they are both healthy and rapidly growing. However and unfortunately, they both have started to develop thorns on the stem, branches and even at the base of some leaves. S. japonica is not supposed to have thorns!!!!!!! 😔 Another reviewer mentioned that it was likely black locust seeds masquerading as S. japonica. After doing some additional searching this seems to be highly accurate. Additionally, a plant identification app quickly id them as black locust. This was definitely not random contamination, as 5 of 6 seeds planted germinated the same wrong plant. So, long story short, the only seeds that germinated for me, were not even the right plant species and now they have lots of thorns, wow!!!!! Really couldn't be more disappointed with this purchase, as already stated... buyer beware!

Amazing customer service and great product.
The price is good and everything in the kit is of very decent quality, so you absolutely get value for money. It all arrives in a nice, sturdy, cardboard box. The instruction booklet is very thorough and easy to follow, even for beginners, and since they provide the right gardening tools, nothing is gonna stop me from growing a bonsai mini-forest 🤗 I love the seed selection! Especially the wisteria is gonna make my day, every day. Realpetaled gave me the most awesome customer service I ever encountered, in any country. My bonsai set arrived without seeds. I wrote to them and they answered within 24 hours, informing me they would send the seeds. Soon after a complete new kit arrived! Unfortunately the Halloween ghosts must have played a trick on them, because it was not the bonsai kit, but a 6 Herbs Garden Starter Kit. I love growing herbs, but I also want to try my hand at bonsai. So I wrote to them again. I received sincere apologies and the same swift service. Within days I received a new set, the right one this time. What a delightful experience. My room is gonna be filled to the brim with plants!

results can vary (and possibly not in your favor)
Gift for a friend who gardens, so not a black-thumbed rube. Four never started their process; three did. One died within the first year, and the other two made it past the first year mark, but were spindly saplings before slowly ending. Nothing came close to the robust pictures. But she did find the directions clear, the tools helpful, and the idea neat. It's just the end result didn't pan out for her.
