Learn to write legibly. "Monoline" just means it's written with an ordinary pen or pencil and not with an edged pen. After you get a feel for the author's lettering you can make your own adjustments. A nice adjunct might be Sassoon & Briem's "Teach Yourself Better Handwriting," which is more on process than on model scripts.
