Traditional Thai Yellow Curry Paste by Mae Jum (1)

Used this to spice up my Yellow prawn curry. I was glad I found it on Amazon as yellow curry paste is actually quite hard to find in most supermarkets.It is a great paste that is full of flavour, so full that you have to be careful with dosing it! My curry got so spicy that I had to add extra coconut cream and veggies to tone it down for the children.I used about half the sachet for a meal for four, so next time I will use less than a quarter. Very hot if u don't add a tablespoon of brown sugar. Too sweet for some if u add a tablespoon of white sugar, so just keep adjusting till u find a suitable sweetness/hotness to suit u.

What a real shame! We love Thai yellow curry for its mildness, however after reading reviews on here it was apparent this stuff is hot! We ordered it anyway and used only a little of the paste and a lot of coconut milk. Even with using a small amount and loads of milk, this was incredibly spicy like no other yellow curry paste I’ve had! We had to bin the meals as they weren’t edible due to the heat. We were attracted to this product as it didn’t contain fish, however we are back to the drawing board.

This is a lovely paste, spot on for a Thai yellow curry. However there are two Thai yellow curries. One is mild and more like an Indian, and from northern Thailand. The other is fiercely spicy and fruity and from the south. This is the latter. Find a recipe for gaeng luang, be careful how much paste you use, and enjoy. If you want a milder curry, look for something called gaeng kari. That’s the more Indian style one from the north.
