The Superhero Brain: Explaining autism to empower kids (boy)

Great for helping talk about diagnosis
We read this to our 6 year old when we talked to him about his diagnosis. He didn’t say anything right away but many hours later mentioned, “Oh, that’s because of my superhero brain,” when he was having some auditory sensory issues. I really like the strength perspective of the book.

The idea is there, but not executed very well
This book has good intentions, but I'm not particularly impressed with it. I feel it's not very well written; the rhymes are few and far between, and it feels too wordy to keep my kids' attention. But I love the idea behind it, and I will attempt to use it to help explain my son's ASD to him and his brother.

Let him know hes not alone
Didnt seem that interested at first. But zzi have always told him his superpower was figuring out how to handle things

My son thought the book was ok. Wish I had it when he was younger. He is 10 so it was a little childish for him. But well written and a solid message.

Very very disappointed.
My son has recently been diagnosed with autism. I bought the book to help me explain his diagnosis to him and to make sure he's happy and aware. The book is completely pointless. It's very, very thin with not a lot of information on each page. It definitely isn't worth the price. The examples of the behaviours in the book are very specific so if your child doesn't experience them it is very hard for them to relate and learn from it. Same statements you can find on Google for free under autism. In the photo I have copied one of the pages just to give an example of what extacly I mean. Overall I was disappointed with the book and so was my 7 year old son.

I'm not too sure about this book. Myself and my son are autistic and although this was a nice premise, it's very hard when there are specific examples to relate them to your own life. We don't experience those particular examples so we don't feel this book is about us. I understand it's impossible to cater to each child of course but I'm not sure this helped get the message I wanted across. He felt a lot of pressure of "being a superhero" and said he wished he wasn't autistic.

Great book for AS child learning about their diagnosis
With 3 children on the spectrum i should have shares in Amazon for the amount of books iv bought relating to AS. Many were a waste but this one really resonated with my children ages 7,6 and 3.

Way overpriced poor quality
As someone struggling with the extremely difficult job of single parenting a child with ASD and ADHD I was desperate for some material to help myself and my 6 year old learn more about how to deal with this life altering condition. As a single mum I’ve had to pay out thousands of costs in childcare whilst waiting for diagnosis over the years to save myself from going insane. This book is very very thin, and one of the poor quality ‘Printed in Great Britain by Amazon’ books. Worth £3 at most. £8+ is a complete rip off. Talk about targeting low hanging fruit for profit... shame on Amazon.

Nice story but not much to relate too
My son has autism and I wanted a story that I could use to explain why he behaves a certain way such as flapping. This book doesn't really explain what autism is. It's a lovely story but I don't think it's very informative. My son could only relate to one page of the story. It was recommended by my son's ASD teacher. He still has a lot of unanswered questions, which I'll need another book for. My copy seems to be different to others as one review had a boy jumping on a trampoline, which isn't in my book, this page would have been brilliant.
