Marvelous machine, but pricey
I bought this machine to use for sewing heavy upholstery fabric, which it does with ease. The only thing I've found so far that I would really like is a speed governor. My old machine had one which was really convenient for more even control.

Steadfast Quality
The Jade 20 is simple to use, has the basic functions and provides quality stitches. I struggled with the automatic thread assisted system, but finally got it to work. The dual start and stop option is a plus though I have more control with the pedal. Wish it had a thread start lock button. Easy to thread and I love that it has a modern self-closure design. It is well worth it to have as a beginner machine or even for quick project use by the advanced sewing expert. I have a Brother, Bernina, and Janome and by far enjoy sewing with the Jade 20 for quick sewing projects.

So very easy to use. I no longer make all my clothes but need to mend & do projects.

Not happy with seller or machine
I purchased as a Xmas gift 11/7. Opened the box day before Xmas and it was taped up funny - like it was returned previously. No protection for shipping the sewing machine box had no foam around machine, and that box was inside a bigger Amazon box where it could bounce around.Opened it and tried sewing with the machine. The bobbin has issues winding correctly no matter which of the two methods you use. The needle threader is damaged and doesn’t work. When sewing the tension is off and it doesn’t respond to adjustments. The materials when sewing do not feed correctly. Tried several different materials. Also the needle sounds like it’s hitting something - no matter what setting you place the needle on.So very disappointed in this item. Had one before but it was so much better. I feel like I was sent a damaged one rather than a brand new one I paid for.

A serviceable machine but not the easiest to use
I have sewed with many machines - some cheap and cheerful and some very expensive. I wanted a machine this time that was in the middling price range, so more heavy duty and durable than the $200 machine, but not so fancy that it could cost thousands! The Jade seemed to offer that - the make Husqvarna is very reputable and the price was affordable.I have been quite pleased with it so far. But there are a few things that I wish they had made more simple. They are: changing the needle is an extremely taxing and frustrating task as it requires a screw driver to secure and dislodge the needle. It is extremely difficult to insert the needle as the base is so wide that you cannot see what you are doing. It doesn’t seem to be easy to insert either and both times I have given myself a painful needle stab. The tiny screw which secures the needle also tends to fall out when it is loosened and is very difficult to find when it has bounced away and hidden itself!Winding the bobbin is also not as easy as I would like , certainly not compared to other machines I have used and owned. My other bugbear is the reverse stitch whose button is placed in an awkward position so that you end up reversing for many stitches (inches!) when you only wanted to go backwards and forwards a few times. I have used the machine for a few weeks and still cannot get used to this button. My old Husqvarna’s reverse stitch was so much easier. At the moment I have not used the machine for anything complicated - straight and zigzag sewing, zippers etc so cannot comment on the other more advanced things that this machine is supposed to do.By the way the zipper foot included with this machine is difficult to use - I ordered a single foot from Amazon (around $10)and it is a lot easier to sew close to the zipper than the one provided. Not,sure if I recommend this machine or not. It certainly copes with thicker fabrics than my old cheapy one…

Nice product for the price.
Blew off the top of the first bobbin I wound. Took at least 5 tries to get it right. When paper piecing and you can't chain stitch, the first stitch messes up. I was already familiar with the needle threader, so it wasn't a problem.

Broke after 3 months
Firstly, I don’t like how most of the time when I used the Reverse sew button it would need to be hit multiple times to turn it off. The cords for power and foot pedal were not very long.3 months in, the timing mechanism busted. I took it in to be fixed and was told that new sewing machines are made to be ‘tossed’, not fixed and in my case this is true. This machine is built so that if the timing mechanism breaks, it CAN’T be fixed. $500 for 3 months of use?? I’m never buying another Viking.
