Love this pillow!
I have tried many pillows but this one tops them all by a mile. I purchased the "Japanese" traditional size, 14" x 20" because they are more expensive than a regular pillow, but it is the perfect size. No need to buy a larger one. It easily shapes for your preference, and keeps that shape. I examined the hulls carefully before using and there were no bugs or other objects in the hulls, as has been reported with some of the other brands. After a few weeks of use, I let it lay in the sunshine for a few hours as was advised and it kept that "fresh air" smell the entire night. If you have any kind of neck issues or just want a comfortable, natural content pillow, I highly recommend this product.

Perfect pillow made in Chicago!
This is the best buckwheat pillow I've ever had. I've used one for about 15 years. I've had multiple back surgeries and cannot sleep without one. My old one lasted about 10 years, and when I finally needed a new one I was nervous about getting a good replacement. This one is perfect! Excellent balance of support and comfort, and just the amount of fill I needed. I slept great the first night I used it. Bonus: This pillow is made in Chicago, and I am a fifth-generation Chicagoan. I didn't even know I was buying local-what a great surprise! Please support this great product from an American company.

Small but surprisingly comfortable
Not too bad so far - super surprised actually. It is a small size as people have mentioned, but I found I don't need anything larger because I don't move much when I sleep. It won't last long however because I find myself fiddling with shells inside the casing and crushing them with my fingers while I'm laying there. It's like an obsession now - it's created a monster. The only negative is the material of the case - it looks old and worn even though it's not.

Helps with neck pain!
I had one of these pillows years ago. But got lost when I moved. Had to break down and buy a new one. So glad I did! I have less neck pain and fall asleep faster. Also I don't wake up in the middle of the night with a sweat soaked pillow. The size is just fine for me. Others may prefer a lager pillow. I ordered from this company because of complaints of bugs in other companies pillows. Also like to support American workers. Another plus is if you get low on food, you can eat the buckwheat husks! Just kidding!

Count me among the allergic
Welp - I liked the pillow, after I finally got it adjusted to the correct amount of filing (y’all - I took out more than half). But, unlucky for me, after about 3 nights, I realized that what I’d thought were seasonal allergies, was indeed an allergy to the pillow. I can consume buckwheat just fine (hello, soba!), but the hulls are another matter.

There are problems with this pillow, but I wasn't put off by them.
Initially, the buckwheat hulls had a very strong smell. That went away after a couple days and now it has a faint, but pleasant, odor. It reminds me of lavender.I have all of the common allergies and experienced no allergic reaction to this pillow. If you have something more intense, or specific to buckwheat, then I could see it bothering you.Thinking that my head isn't bigger than 14x20, I got the Japanese standard size, but, after receiving it, I realized that a larger size would probably be thicker; I have broad shoulders and this pillow has little to no height, so sleeping on my side meant I would have to add a second pillow. Rather than reintroduce that lumpiness I was trying to avoid, I used a folded blanket and got the perfect height, with no loss of comfort.I think this pillow is great and you might not. I'd have not idea why you might not like it, the pillow is great, but who knows with you.

Quite firm
I had a similar one way back in 2000, made with the shells. I recall it not being as firm as this one. Then again, there were two of us taking turns using it, so it may have worn down faster. As a side sleeper, it has not helped with the neck/shoulder pain, which I was hoping it would fix. So am having to rotate between this pillow every 3 days and either a standard pillow, or memory foam. Hope others have better luck than me. But I'm keeping mine, as it does work well the few times I sleep on my back.

Adjustable, Cool, coutouring
This pillow is firm, but contours exactly to your shape. You can take out some of the husks to adjust the height, It's cool and breaths very well. The only comparison I can describe is a adjustable air pillow, or water pillow. The pillow is much smaller than most north american pillows though about half the size.

An almost hard, almost unforgiving pillow
...but the most comfortable pillow Ive ever had. I graduated from a tiny bead pillow so I knew exactly what I was getting into. Like the zipper so you can adjust the amount inside. I only need the smaller model.
