Perfect for my old Radio Shack solder station.
It works. I don’t know about longevity but it appears well made and worked as expected right away.

Pleased to say it worked with my RS digital station right out of the box.
Not exactly sure how to rate the thickness of a soldering iron but hey gave it my best shot. Seems like a pretty accurate replacement for the radio shack unit mentioned in the description. I took the time and read through some of the reviews about not working on the digital station and after some consideration and searching only to find that there weren't ever any non digital versions of this station and feeling pretty confident that other users had given clear instructions on how to calibrate if it didn't work I decided to roll the dice. it worked perfectly fine for me right out of the box no calibration needed. I was pretty happy to see that. Even if you have a digital radio shack station I believe this will probably work for you. Also tried contacting Atten (manufacturer of the unit) and requesting parts for the similar AT209D. While they were polite and helpful, it was clear that factory replacement parts for this have not been available for quite some time. Seems like this is our best bet for a replacement. Considering a spare or replacement consumables for this while I can get them.

Worked perfectly as a replacement
This totally did the job and felt just like the original. Thanks!

Not Compatible with the 852D+
This item is not compatible with the 852D+. The plug is the correct shape, but the wires in the cable are not connected to anything. There is no temperature sensor in the tip. Without a temperature sensor the item cannot work with the 852D+. Not surprisingly it generates a sensor error. I returned it.

NOT FOR THE 64-053 DIGITAL SOLDERING STATION. INCOMPATIBLE.
I have the 64-053 digital soldering station and this pencil is NOT compatible with the station. There is no sensor to report back temperature, which causes the station not to power the heating element at all. I am still hopeful, but not positive, that I can use the new heating element on the older board. They appear to be the same. Soldering is required for this task so, if this is your only iron then you would need to purchase a new iron for this. If you do not have the digital version of this station then the pencil ought to work for you, no issues.Other things I noted:The cable harness is about 1.5 inches longer than the original.Flexibility of the original is better with about a 1 inch bend radius without strain. The cable that came with this pencil can do about a 1.5 inch bend radius without strain. The difference is likely just the original being a worn cable and a new one being well, new. I suspect it would loosen over time.Tip the new one came with is slightly broader then the tip the original came with. This is actually good for most people as the very narrow tip the original came is really only good in specific circumstances. A broader tip will carry and retain heat more effectively. I still recommend going for a tip set that has a couple different sized chisel tips. The set I bought even has the very narrow tip for much small SMD components. With the current tip on this pencil you can likely solder as small as 0805s but, still carry enough heat to apply components to a small ground plane.I would rate 2 star for the lack of information towards the glaring issue of compatibility but, it is also hard to find the right heating element so I at least got something useful out of this. Please make it more known that this pencil is not for use with the 64-053 DIGITAL Soldering Station.

This wand is compatible with Radio Shack unit, as advertised
This replacement wand *IS* plug-in compatible with Radio Shack 64-0053, or at least the revision I have purchased in the aughts. The heating element is two-wire with the thermistor part of the coil, ultimately using three leads in the five pin connector - and it works perfectly in my unit! One star taken for lack of heat vents in the collar retainer and the provided tip was pretty blunt, but I just swapped these two parts with ones off the old wand and I'm back up and running...

Do not believe their list of compatible devices
False advertisement and misleading i ordered for my station model # 8586 witch appears in their list of compatible devices upon powering up it caused a surge to my station.I needed to understand what caused it so I proceeded to disassemble their iron to compare with original and as you can see in pictures the original element has 4 wires this iron only has 2 wires witch clearly shows the difference and explains the issue I had this has cost me money for parts to fix my station and cost me 2 days of work. This is absolutely not compatible with my model and should not have been advertised as compatible when its clearly different. This should be rectified and advertised properly rather then cause this issue to anyone else .P.S I gave 1 star as its impossible to give less

Aucune thermasistence a l'interieur
Le soudeur n'a pas de capteur se qui indique une erreur sur station numerique.Le fait qu'il aille 5 fils nous met dans l'interrogation!!mais les 2 fils qui servent de capteur son couper a l'autre bout !!! Faite attention!!

WILL NOT WORK W/Baku 898
the ceramic heating element has two(2) wires only , even if the 5 pin connector match there is 3 pins only that are used ; 2 for v+ & ground a third for temp sensing , the cost for returning this item make's it a total waist ,so before you buy this iron open your old one and look for the wire count to figure if it will work AND even then maybe you will need to swapp wire to pin locations , i could not power it up but seems like a decent iron and feels ok when holding it in my hand . hope this will save someone's money 30$ paper weight is a bit stiff and i have too many already
