Merriam-Webster’s Essential Learner’s English Dictionary - For ESL, EFL, ELL, & TEFL Study & Instruction Newest Edition

Helpful when trying to explain definition to a student.

This portable size MW dictionary is very attractive: lovely cover and substantial content.This is basically a spinoff from the 2008 hardcover advanced learner's dictionary but it is not do hefty. yet it has all the merits of the bigger tome: lots if illustrative examples.As the 2016 revised edition of the advanced learner's dictionary is pretty much the same with the 2008 edition, I really recommend this 2010 paperback edition: it has the same merits of the hardcover volume but lower priced.

Just wish the print was larger. The definitions are much more accessible for my English Language Learners, but my eyes struggle to read it, even with bifocals! I do use the online version, too, which is so helpful!

I liked this book because it is easy to understand and it is very complete

I ordered the book based on part of its title, "Learners", thinking that it was for learners of English, such as latina women who want to improve their sparse knowledge of English. But the book is not really for learners. It is a reference for, as an example, teachers of English who themselves are not native English speakers and who need help in understanding the precise meaning of a particular English word. For them this is a great reference; but for learners of English at a basic "learning" level it isn't useful. In other words the title is misleading, and it misled me to buying it to see if it would a useful reference to provide to students wanting to learn English. (And of course the small type size--scaled down to paperback from a normal size, I'm sure-- Its usefulness for anyone is greatly reduced.)
