at what temperature does this melt?

Harris regular Stay-Brite(Not Stay-Brite #8) is advertised as an Sn96/Ag4 alloy, but it's MSDS says that the actual Silver content ranges from 3.4 to 3.8%. The eutectic point for an Sn/Ag alloy is 96.5% Sn and 3.5% Ag with a eutectic temperature of 221C(429.8F). For reference, any purely bi-metal alloy of only Tin and Silver with a silver content anywhere from 2% to 10%(and possibly an even wider range) always has a solidus temperature of 221C. Raising, or lowering, the silver content above or below 3.5% results in the liquidus temperature going *up*, but the solidus temp always stays at 221C. For example, a pure Sn96/Ag4 alloy has a liquidus temperature 8C higher than the eutectic point, at 229C(444.2F). So to answer your original question, this solder will completely melt somewhere between 429.8F and 444.2F, which is a fairly narrow range for solder actually.

can this make a solid solder joint between aluminum and stainless steel?

had a similar joint to do, ended up using original JB weld and it has held up well so far. for a stronger joint you may look into super alloy 1 solder

Would this silver solder be appropriate for potmetal repair?

I do not believe so, Pot Metal is mostly Zink. This product works great on Iron & Mild Steel. Stay-Brite is a fantastic Silver Solder, I use it exclusively and rate it at 5 Stars. For Pot Metal, Muggy Weld works well . The only problem with Muggy Weld is they want $19 for a small bottle of liquid flux AND charge $19 Dollars for shipping The Flux, once opened has a very short shelf life.( A tiny 4 oz bottle) In short, Muggy Weld works BUT they Rip you off on price via their outrageous shipping charge.
