Kryptonite Evolution Mini-7 Bike U-Lock, 13mm Steel Shackle, 4 ft Cable

Serious thieves use bolt cutters and cordless angle grinders that can cut through this lock in a minute, so consider this lock and cable combo suitable for only low-value bicycles of no interest to serious thieves. And that's why I bought it, for a low-value bicycle that I leave for short periods of time in low-risk locations. This lock will stop the casual thief without tools who might otherwise steal a low-value bike or wheel just sitting there easy to take. If you have a high-value bike, frequent high-risk locations, or leave your bike exposed overnight, then definitely get a better lock more able to defend against tools. Measured dimensions for the "U" part is 3-1/4" wide x 7-1/16" long (inside), and 4-1/2" wide x 8-5/8 long (outside). The cable is 4 ft. end-to-end, and 0.37" diameter with plastic cover. Before ordering this lock, be sure to measure dimensions on your bike and to what you intend to lock to so you're sure it will fit. The name is "Mini-7", less than regular size. I give it five stars for it's appropriate use for low-risk situations and low-value bikes, beyond that is expecting too much.

First. We all need to understand. Any bike can be stolen no matter what bike lock you use. A bike lock is a deterrent. Like "hey steal the bike next to me, it does not have a lock it will be easy". That said this mini-7 is quite stout. Any thief will at least need to work a little, and carry the proper tools. This mini-7 was purchased for college student who would leave bike outside in a rack along with many many other bikes. So far so good. Its a safety/protection device. You cannot always put a price on safety/protection. However, I sure would be nicer if it was a bit less expensive. Pros: - great size - nice frame mount options - two keys included - optional theft insurance - pleasing color scheme - excellent build quality - reputable / trusted name Cons: - not clear/easy, cable storage on the frame - its small (duh its a mini, but be careful about buying this, it might be to small to lock both a wheel+frame to a solid support) - pricey Would I purchase again: Yes Would I recommend to others: Yes

This is a solid bike lock and I really like it. The thing is as sturdy as a Mac truck. Although, if someone really want to compromise it they will. No lock is perfect. However, there are a couple issues that I would like to address. The first of which resides with the bike mount. It is a complex two component rig made of soft plastic that peels away when you try to tighten it down. It never worked on any part of my bike frame. The plastic on the bottom of the mount just peeled away as I tightened it. My wife purchased a cheaper knock off of this lock that has a simple frame mount that makes sense. It uses a two piece design that wraps around the frame and locks it in place with a simple screw. It actually tightens itself onto the frame. The one for this lock is......a frame mount for a lock mount that is mounted on the frame mount. It is absolutely ridiculous and kind of sad for such a high priced lock. The other problem is that the lock is way too big to be mounted on most of the bike frames on the market. I don't think that can be helped though. My bike has a thick frame and the lock barely fits through it on most bike racks around town. We have to carry our locks in our backpacks. Not a big issue, just an annoyance. The last thing is that the lock can be picked very very easily, which means that the core is a simple straight pin lock. So if anyone knows how to pick locks, then you can kiss your bike goodbye. Again, no lock is perfect and if a thief wants your bike, they are going to find away around every lock that they come up against. Regardless of these slight issues, I would rather have this lock than a cheaper model.

(Revised) Had some trouble with the lock at first. Added some lubricant. Now works well. Had to jiggle it a bit but finally got it working.

This is an excellent medium-high security bike lock solution. I bought one for myself and for my wife, as we both ride regularly as commuters. The mini U is large enough to lock my bike to most bike racks, street signs, and parking meters. However, I cannot fit it around my frame, the rack, and a wheel. Because it is a smaller U lock shackle, you really must rely on the cable to secure your wheels to the bike. I do not live in a major metropolitan area or on a sizable University campus, so this is plenty secure for my regular needs. The bike frame mount is secure enough, but noisy. It rattles a lot. So I took it off and now keep the U lock on my belt or in a bag. Not a big deal but if you really mind rattling and road noise, I doubt you will like the frame mount solution. If you will be using larger rack structures to secure your bike, or need to fit a wheel in there, maybe go with a bigger U. But I have really enjoyed using this lock, and it is a convenient size for lugging around. I have used it almost daily for more than 2 months now, even biking and locking outside in the rain. The lock action is still smooth.

Welp. Seven years after purchase, I’m back here to report that this cable and lock protected my bike from getting stolen! They tried cutting through the cable but gave up and stole my neighbors bike instead. Still going strong. Will be buying a replacement cable for sure.

Great lock kit. Reviews say this is good against just about everything but a very highly skilled locksmith or an angle grinder. Some reviews state that the mount is flimsy. However, if you follow the directions and watch the kryptonite video on YouTube, install the mount correctly, and tighten it down really well, it's nice and secure.

As a new bike user, I was a bit worried about choosing the right lock and took some time before deciding on this one. After using it for the past three months, I haven’t had a single issue. It’s super strong, looks great, and is easy to carry around. Feels very secure and well made ... definitely a great choice.

El tamaño es bueno para que encaje bajo el asiento de la bicicleta, de ser más largo no cabría en ninguna parte de mi bicicleta que es talla M. Se siente fuerte y seguro. El seguro contra robo que ofrece "Kryptonite" no aplica en mi país (México).

My first ever Kryptonite product and I am INLOVE. I've got 2 (race bike and a dutch bike) of my bikes stolen and 1 (mountain bike) destroyed to pulp, but with these locks nothing has happened to my new race bike so far. The frame mount is super nifty and cord gives me a lot of peace in my mind HAHA I have zero complaints! I've had a handful of moments where I was unable to open the lock due to its locking mechanism, but that's probably just a skill issue. And! Just a headsup, these are susceptible to rusting so remember to keep the keyhole closed ;)
