and I sit in rocking chairs because I like to rock (very relaxing)
I do a lot of computer work while sitting in a ROCKING CHAIR, and I sit in rocking chairs because I like to rock (very relaxing). This lap desk was the solution I had been seeking! After looking at a lot of lap desks that sit on your lap, or straddle over your lap and realizing none of those would work, I was beginning to have thoughts that I might have to invent something myself (uugh!) Then I spied a woman using this ingenious device at a conference, taking notes on her laptop while she sat on a very ordinary, not vary large padded chair in a hotel conference room in the middle of a crowd, and I had to know what it was! So I ordered one that very night, and have been very, very pleased.I use a MacBook Air (the bigger one), and it fits perfectly. The little lip on the desk is just right to keep the computer in place (it doesn't shift or slide at all, even with my continuous rocking!), and it's small enough that it doesn't interfere at all with my wrists as I rest the heels of my hands on the computer while typing. The desk is very light weight, so I hardly even notice it while I'm using it, except for the pleasure of having the computer raised in a delightfully stable way to a comfortable typing height. (I can rest my elbows on the arms of my wooden rocking chair while I type.)It is very true about the heat dissipation I've heard others mention. It is such a non-issue with this desk, I had forgotten that it ever was an issue. Now there is nothing attractive about the appearance of this desk, except for how it pretty much disappears while in use. It is black plastic, and there's no way around it (kinda wish I'd gotten white), and it's not any special kind of plastic with a nice feel, either. It's plain, and that's it. And it's a bit of an eyesore in my otherwise warmly decorated room. But it functions SO WELL that I keep it, and that's saying a lot (because I care a lot about esthetics).Besides the black plastic look, the only other small inconvenience is that it doesn't stand up by itself with the computer on it, when it's not on my lap. I don't really see how something with this kind of shape (and the ergonomics it is suited for) could. I do get up and down many times an hour, and the way I have solved this is by lifting the lap desk, with the computer on it, by the stem (so the top, which is removable for pack-flat portability) doesn't come off, and I set it on the floor with the back of the desk touching a wall or piece of furniture. This is plenty of support that keeps the desk from tipping, and it holds my computer perfectly while I'm out of my chair, and then, when I sit down again, I just pick it up by the stem and return it to my lap, all in one piece (computer and desk together). It works well.I have been using this desk daily for several months, and am very pleased. I would now have a hardship if I had to live without it!

Iffy.
This won't work for what I originally purchased it for, but I have found another use for it, so it isn't a wasted purchase. I had hoped to use it while recovering from a knee replacement, but it is too awkward to use in my recliner. It's too short, too small a tray, and falls apart too easily. I can use it for some things in a rocking chair I have, though, so it'll leave it with that chair. It does pack compactly for travel.

Five star if it wasn't so spendy.. Ouch
When I received it, It was in a big box, ok what did I get into, Opening it I find a lot of plastic bags full of air, OK, they didn't want it lost, I open it and find that it is all pure plastic. It is nice and lite, it is easy to figure out how to make changes to the way it works. It is fully functional as I needed, but I do not think it is worth so much money. Someone is getting rich off this one. Glad I used some of my reward cash for it. My thoughts are that it could be half price and they still make fair value for it, It is all pressed Plastic, something like I use to make when working at a plastics machine shop, hot molding presses. All in all It is a good product and I will use it.Dan

Five stars from a human, zero stars from two guinea pigs, but they can't type or read.
I'm a single parent going through the equivalent of medical school, so I need to get a lot of work and research done at home from the couch where I can still keep an eye on everything. I started to develop problems in my elbows (cubital tunnel syndrome) due to the angle at which I was typing. After doing a lot of research into my options, I invested in this lap desk and have been pleased. I'm able to angle it as I need for heavy duty work sessions, and when I'm just sort of up and down and not really at the computer, I fold it up to rest it across my lap, where it's the height of a regular bean bag-style lap desk. No bean bags = no bean bag deflation. I expect this to last for years and years, at least through my graduation, after which I can probably hire cabana boys to type things for me. Using this desk as it's meant to be used, set up between my legs, has helped ease the shooting nerve pain tremendously. If anyone's curious, I am using a Microsoft Surface Pro with the keyboard accessory. So, five stars. I would recommend purchasing, would purchase again.Tiny bits of negative feedback, which would not keep me from buying this desk:-It would be nice if you could smoothly fold/unfold it, but I have no idea how anybody could modify the (already excellent) design to do that, good luck.-There is a small groove on each side. Nowhere near the wrist, but what are they for? Right now they serve to catch crumbs and glitter from my manicures. If that's what they're for, they're doing an excellent job, but if they were a tiny big bigger they could handle pencils etc.-My kid's guinea pigs would like to report that when I am using this lap desk, there is enough room between my lap and the bottom of the desk surface for them to THINK there's a hideout there, when in fact the gap is not large enough for an adult guinea pig to fit into.-Which reminds me, bonus upside to this desk: able to sustain repeated nibblings by resentful adult guinea pigs without a single scratch. The desk is SOLID without being heavy.

Cool design, but needs some mods
As other reviewers have stated, this is a pain to deal with when you are ready to get up and move. The desktop could be about an inch bigger. I have a 17" Dell that juuuuuuust barely fits. My computer has a battery that protrudes off the bottom, so sometimes when I have the battery resting on the desktop, it will slip off causing my computer to slam onto the desktop. But I have to use the battery as support because it elevates the bottom of my computer off of the desktop that (as others have stated) provides no airflow to the bottom of the computer. And I'm not crazy about the bottom part of the stand. I like to sit with my legs crossed, but I can't for long with this because my feet end up resting on the stand which is quite uncomfortable after about 10 minutes.
