Weaving on Gourds

First, the cover photo attracted me. And though I already carve, paint, use a wood burner, and add coil basketry technique on gourds ~ author Marianne Barnes inspiring coil technique and book layout has made this a favorite reference for me. The illustrations show good detail and coordinate well with the superb instruction on any coil technique you could think of to use on gourds. I like how she shows how to start the spoke attachment on the gourd in a way to make the seam almost seamless. And the attractiveness of including almost any medium (natural or man made) into a weave for variety and focal points. The dream catcher weave is a common idea, but I would not have thought of using it with gourds before this publication. Thank you Marianne Barnes for your thorough instruction. This is a must reference book for any gourd artist out there with a desire for an organic designed finish on their gourd.

I like this book. It has lots of good ideas and the instructions are fairly clear. I fine I refer to it many times, and I would reccomend it if you work with gourds

I have been working in gourds for several years and weaving on the rims with pineneedles so when I saw this book coming out I had to have it. The book is beautifully done with great photos that really help. The projects are beautiful too. My only criticism is that this book is not really meant for beginner basket weavers, like me. All the instuctions are there but some important things like, how long the spokes should be and what happens when a spoke breaks, or how long a weaver should you start with, appear to be missing or hidden somewhere in all the text. I am slowly getting through my first one but find I am stumbling around looking for an answer. But I am glad I bought this book and will work it all out

A great reference book filled with great pictures and clear instructions.

Great book to learn different weaving techniques on gourds. Pictures were superb and the book was very informative

Weaving on gourds is a wonderful book filled with gorgeous art. New ideas started forming in my head as I turned each page. So many techniques to try. I really like and often use the step by step instructions on different weaving types.
